Palmer Continues Streak Into Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday; Yagmin, Vogelsong, and Gallaer Also Grab Wins

Waterford, CT — The Waterford Speedbowl kicked off its Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday race program in strong fashion with Jason Palmer continuing his hot streak winning his third consecutive Legends 20-lapper in impressive fashion.  Other winners from the night included Brad Vogelsong in a thrilling X-Car event, John Yagmin in a well contested Super X-Car race, and Rob Gallaer taking down his first career Speedbowl win in the X-Modifieds.

Palmer took the lead early in the Legends Car race and went on to victory by three car lengths over George Whitney.  A restart with 7 laps to go gathered the field, but Whitney didn’t have enough to challenge for the win.  Johnnie Gloor IV ran a heads-up race to take third, Ed Field took fourth, and Dennis Pantani completed the top-five.

The X-Cars race featured wild action all over the race surface with three and four wide racing during their zany 20-lap feature.  Vogelsong swapped the lead with Curt D’Addario Sr. during the event and came out on top in the end.  After taking a commanding early lead, a late caution enabled D’Addario, who had methodically worked his way through heavy traffic, to restart behind Vogelsong and Pete Zaikarite in the closing laps.  On the restart D’Addario bolted to the lead in an entertaining battle for the lead.  Zaikarite’s strong run would end in the turn 1 wall on the white flag lap, setting up a green-white-checkered finish.  On the restart Vogelsong used his prowess in the outside groove to grab the exciting win.  D’Addario hung on for second, Patrick Williams third, Michael Marvin fourth, and John Bowes finished fifth.

In Super X-Car action John Yagmin inherited the lead when early leader Michael Caprio retired from the event under caution.  Yagmin would go on to battle with James Consalvo, who ran strong up front throughout the event, and overtake him for the win in the 20-lap event, using the outside groove.  Consalvo would apply pressure to Yagmin in the final laps, but could not muster enough steam to pull alongside.  Mike Maskell ran a good race to come to third at the checkered flag, while Charles Beal and Al Potter completed the top-five.

Rob Gallaer won the X-Modified race over David Flammia Jr., and Richard “Bubby” Brouwer.
