Cestodio, Spillers and Hutchins Fast Friday Winners

Seekonk, MA — On Friday, August 7, Jake Spillers picked up his first win in the Seekonk Youth Racing Association 750 class. Using a three wide pass on the inside, the reigning 600 class champion was able to take the lead and pull away to the checkered flag.

In the 25 lap Pure Stock feature, Ed Flanagan Jr became the third leader of the event, following Melissa Charette and newcomer Harold Pratt to the front. John Robidoux ran second for several laps, before spinning on lap seven. Tom Blackwell took over second, but fell to Randy Moretti, who was on the charge from his 13th starting position. He took over second on lap 14, and moved right to the front on lap 15.

Moretti opened up some breathing room as Scott Cestodio moved into second. Over the final laps, Cestodio trailed the birthday boy, and appeared to settle for the runner-up position, but as they came through the final corners, a lapped car moved up the racetrack just as Moretti was going around, opening up the inside lane for the reigning champ. As they came off of turn four, they raced three wide, with Moretti slapping the outside wall at the stripe, giving Cestodio his fourth win of the season by .030. Nick Uhrig finished third, with Lou Robinson and Jamie Salley rounding out the top five.

Chris Igo Jr. jumped out to the early lead from his pole position, and opened up a comfortable advantage. Spillers was up to second early, but on lap 3, he drifted high, and fell back to sixth. Voluntown CT’s Nick Ladyga moved into second, and put some pressure on the leader, but could not find a way by. As the field crossed at lap ten, Casey Sanchez closed in and put pressure on Ladyga. At the halfway point, Sanchez moved by Nick into second, and closed right in on Igo and challenged for the lead.

Spillers was moving quickly through the field, and picked up two spots on lap 16 to move into third. At that same time, Sanchez moved to the outside and moved into the lead on lap 16. For the next three laps, they raced side by side, with Igo taking back over the following lap. As they raced down the backstretch, Ashburnham’s Spillers moved to the bottom and made a three wide bid for the lead. Spillers took the lead on lap 18, and pulled away from the pack. Igo and Sanchez continued to fight for second, as they swapped position several times.

As the field ran the final laps, Kyle DeSouza got into the mix, and took over second on the last lap, taking Ladyga and Sanchez past a slipping Igo, who wound up fifth.

In the 600 main event for the Seekonk Youth Racing Association, Dave Hutchins Jr became the first repeat winner of 2009. Jason Enos II jumped out to the early lead in the 25 lap feature, and looked to be on his way to his first victory of the season. Enos survived through several restarts, holding off challenges from Carl Medeiros and Bob Perry.

The scariest incident of the night happened on lap 18, when Nick Lascuola rolled over in his SYRA machine. He was able to climb out with no injuries, and the car was able to roll away. Over the final several laps, Hutchins moved into second, and moved to the outside. Little by little, he chipped away at the lead, and as they raced the final circuit, Hutchins was able to find enough momentum off turn 4, and took the lead over the final few yards, picking up his second win by two tenths of a second. Enos finished second, with Perry, Medeiros and Ashley Kuhn rounding out the top five.
