Waterford Champions Crowned at Wild N Wacky Wed. Finale

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl concluded its Wild ‘n Wacky race season with Jason Palmer in victory lane again in the Legends Cars, capping his championship season. The other four champions were crowned. Tyler Chalue was the Bandolero track champion, Patrick Williams won the X Car title, John Yagmin was the Super X Car champ, and Dean Christensen rounded out the championship teams in the X Modified division.

In addition to Palmer, race wins went to Frank Alessio, Christensen, Devin Widger, and Chris Lomartire.

Palmer, from Berlin, started further back in the Legends Car race but had to battle youngster Tony Flannery of East Hampton en route to his victory. Flannery hung tough but Palmer prevailed. The win was Palmer’s 21st of the year. Flannery, Giovanni Giarratana of Newington, Alessandro Vitelli of Woodbridge, and Roger Coss of Lafayette, New Jersey completed the top five finishers in the 20-lap event.

Alessio led the Super X Car race through several cautions from his front row starting spot. A Colchester native, Alessio went on to his second win in just his first year in the division. He topped Taylor Marie-Moran of Preston who ran up front all night to place second, Al Potter of Waterford, Tolland native Yagmin, and East Hartford’s James Consalvo who was runner up in the point standings.

While Williams drove a smooth race to finish fifth and collect his X Car title, the race up front belonged to Devin Widger. Widger, racing out of Plainville, repeatedly moved out front on several restarts which plagued the 20-lap race. He went on unchallenged to the win over Rich Hurne of Groton, Brad Voglesong of Middletown, Willington driver John Bowes and Williams.

Dean Christensen made a late move to take over the race lead and ultimately propel him to the X Modified championship after points leader headed into the event, David Flammia Jr. of Waterbury, encountered trouble after the checkered flag. Christensen, from Granby, bested Rob Gallaer of Sherman and Paul French of Andover.

Chris Lomartire won the 10-lap Bandolero event, returning after a couple weeks away. Tyler Chalue was second which secured his championship effort. Both drivers are from Massachusetts.
