Late Models ready to run 64 lap Open Comp, with $1064 to win. The Pro Stock, Seekonk Sport Truck and Street Stock titles set to be determined.

Seekonk, MA — On Saturday, September 19, the Late Models, with their championship title settled, will highlight the final points night of the 64th season at The Action Track of the East. A 64 lap open competition main event is slated for the Late Models. This will be the second longest Late Model race, and the longest since Ron Reed won a 100 lap feature on September 23, 2000. With many tracks idle, the rules have been opened up to allow competitors from area speedways to come and compete at one of the toughest tracks in the Northeast.

The 64 represents the years of operation for Seekonk Speedway. Opened in 1946, Seekonk is the oldest continuously run family track in the country, headed by the Venditti family since day 1. Over 1200 races have been run at the famed 1/3 mile track, with countless drivers who have toured the track under race conditions. Hundreds of names that have visited Victory Lane in those years have continued to grow the legacy, and added to the moniker, The Action Track of the East.

The ARC Pro Stocks, Seekonk Sport Trucks and Street Stocks will be in full action, with the 2009 titles to be decided. The Pro Stocks see three drivers within 22 points of each other for the title. Dave Darling would like nothing more than to add a third Pro Stock Title to his growing list of accomplishments. Fred Astle Jr is only 7 points behind, while Tom Scully Jr sits third, 22 points out of the lead. These second and third generation competitors will put it all out on the line for the chance to add their names to the Champions List.

Jody Tripp and Rick Martin sit 13 points apart in the chase for the Seekonk Sport Truck crown. Tripp, with 6 wins on the season, leads the chase. Martin has 9 wins, but mechanical problems forced him out of the last event early, costing him a top ten finish, while Tripp finished fourth. This one will come down to the final corners.

Mike Mitchell has a comfortable 32 point advantage in the Street Stock finale. Ryan Lineham still has a mathematical chance, and sites 69 points out of the lead. If there is anything we have learned over the years with the Street Stocks, is that anything can, and will, happen.

Join us as we crown our 2009 Champions, and watch the Late Models run in an open competition event, with over $1,000 to win. The rules package and payout are available online at seekonkspeedway.com.
