Thomas and Jordan to represent Speedbowl at NHMS ACT Invitational

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl competitors Bruce Thomas Jr. and Tim Jordan both received compliments of the highest order in New England Late Model racing when they were extended invitations to compete in the inaugural ACT Invitational Late Model race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The event, slated for this Saturday afternoon, will take place during NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend at NHMS. It pits the best in ACT Late Model racing for 50 laps around the popular New Hampshire speed plant during one of the biggest racing weekends in the northeast.

“One word, awesome” summed up Thomas after he completed a test session at NHMS. “It just speaks to what racing in this division at the Speedbowl can do for you.”

Thomas has been dominant at the Speedbowl over the past three seasons, capturing two straight track titles and is out to a comfortable 74-point margin with four events remaining in the 2009 campaign. Along the way he has amassed 32 wins during that span. His 39 victories in the division over his career places him in the top-five all-time.

Jordan was the 2006 Speedbowl Late Model champion in his rookie season. He and Thomas have become division rivals, with Jordan capturing 16 wins from his championship season through 2009. Jordan has not competed weekly at Waterford the past two seasons, but has been a factor nearly every time he has taken to the three-eighths mile shoreline oval.

“It is an honor to be invited, period” offered Jordan. “We get to race in front on a ton of people Saturday and that will be an amazing experience. Cliff Nelson Motorsports is getting us to the track to compete, and we thank him for that”.

Both Jordan and Thomas have found success competing with the ACT Tour when the popular series has visited their home track. Thomas led a substantial portion of the 100-lap race a year ago ending up second, and Jordan was in the top three when confusion in the final lap dropped him back to fifth this August.

Speedbowl promoter Terry Eames thinks the ‘Bowl has prepared them well. “Competing successfully at Waterford takes a high level of discipline. You pick up a wide mix of racing principles here that can lead to success elsewhere. I think Bruce and Timmy possess the skill set to represent us very well.”

Teams from all six New England states plus the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec are among the representatives. Fourteen drivers received qualified starting spots by winning ACT Tour events, with the remainder of the 36-car field coming by invite only, including the two ‘Bowl competitors.

The Speedbowl is in action this Saturday night for a five division NASCAR Whelen All-American Series event, including the SK Modifieds (35-laps) and Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Models (30-laps).
