Around the Track with Jalopy Jack

Just a few words this week to keep you interesting people from getting bored. Speaking of boredom, I have more then one cure for that. For starters let me recommend once again, Coastal 181 which can be reached at 1-877-907-8181 or at www.coastal181.com. Your best bet is to ask to be put on their mailing list. A quite a few new books are out & some of the older books are going for some pretty good prices. I can’t emphasize enough on how a good racing book can help further your understanding & appreciation of racing. Of course tell them that Jalopy Jack sent you. Another way to at least temporarily avoid boredom is to call WLAR [We Love Auto Racing] at 718-707-1052. Other suggestions to avoid off season boredom in the coming weeks.

I have a late scoop for you people. A couple of months back I had to disappoint some of you when I hoped to have an interview with Ryan Flores. Young Mr. Flores was unable to make it to Wall Stadium for their annual 40 lap championship Legends car feature. I’ve found out straight from a source from down south that Ryan will be at Turkey Derby on Friday 11/27 & that he has a top ride, which’ll be a black #48. The fun & anticipation will lie in what starting position that #48 will have. Also that day I’ll get the promised interview with Ryan & we’ll find out about his young career so far. Much of this will be as informative to me as it is to you. Last week’s column has a rough outline of the Turkey Derby format. If you’re looking for a reason [and I don’t know why somebody has to look for a reason] to be there Friday, watching Ryan Flores in a Legend car, is reason enough to be there. I just hope he gets a starting position that he can show his stuff. And some good noise from you fans when he wins the race [yes, I’m pretty sure he’s going to win] would sound very appreciative to Ryan for his efforts.

Just want to remind everybody, a good part of what’s wrong with our country is that there’s not a stock car track in every neighborhood. But 1 neighborhood we’ve all entered after this last Cup race in Texas, is the neighborhood of a renewed point race with 2 events in Nasser Cup. I know some of us for whatever reason owing to the economy may not have seen the race yet & are planning to, so with respect to those folks I won’t say another word. Those of you who’ve seen the Texas race know what I’m talking about. You see, I try to do this at a realistic level suitable to as many racing fans as possible. There’s no “Nasser Dad” in this neck of the woods. If you don’t know what I mean by that, a couple of years ago it was discovered by some of us more astute columnists that Nasser was trying to create a “1 size fits all” image of the racing fan family. Don’t you love when some racing promoter offers a “great deal” by offering a free hot dog & drink for a family of 4 & you got 3 kids & a favorite uncle that you’re bringing to the races? Maybe NASCAR’s in collusion with the government to make all families the same. Anyway, you don’t find this attitude with Jalopy Jack Racing Entertainment.

Good news is that the Waterford Speedbowl is to remain open & racing. They’ve been on shaky ground for a long time. It’s a nice little track & I might recommend that if you haven’t been there or want 1 more look at the place, perhaps next season should be the time. Warning however, is if you’re coming from the west of it & need 95 to get there, you better allow yourself some time & in case the trip goes good, make some secondary plans to do something around the New London area. Incidentally the name of the track used to be the New London Waterford Speedbowl. And I kinda like that. One thing that’s happened at a number of tracks that were attempting a late season show or were using a late season date to get in a previously postponed race, was that their season ended abruptly without intentions being acted out. It just gives us a little more to look forward to early next season, because most of these tracks will be able to carry out their plans then. I’m also being informed [1 way or another] of some good ideas for certain racing divisions. Yes I know there’s something like 99 different divisions out there, but these really make sense. More about this in future columns. Also in future columns I want to tell you about some folks who’re doing a real good job on the racing scene. And guess what? They’ve nothing to do with Nasser. Like a friend of mine says, “Ain’t that something?”.

Needed: “more indoor racing”. WITHOUT making a big deal out of it. With that happy thought I look forward to the next column here on yankeeracer.com & once again, I want to thank Nick Teto for allowing me a chance to communicate with you interesting people. So for another week, keeping the fans in the stands & the cars on the track, this has been Jalopy Jack.
