NASCAR Announces Recognition Program For Whelen All-American Series Divisions 2-5
Daytona Beach, FL — NASCAR announced Thursday the implementation of a points system designed to recognize the accomplishments of the drivers in the support divisions at its NASCAR Whelen All-American Series tracks.
The program will begin in 2010 and will focus on the divisions at each track below their respective Feature Division. The top 100 drivers in each of eight groups will be designated as a “NASCAR Finalist” at the conclusion of the season.
The groups will be Divisions 2 through 5, for both asphalt and dirt tracks.
The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program for the national, U.S. state and Canadian provincial, and Feature Division track champions will continue under its current format.
“The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series encompasses a variety of divisions and thousands of drivers at tracks across North America, and this is a terrific way to spotlight the outstanding accomplishments throughout the entire series,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR managing director of series operations. “This recognition program is designed to draw attention to the competitors in each track’s non-Feature divisions, without whose support, hard work and love of the sport, this would not be possible.”
Additional key points include:
· NASCAR will award points in each division under the same points format used in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship points system.
· A driver’s best 14 finishes will be counted toward his/her final total.
· Points will be kept separately for asphalt and dirt tracks
