Rain Cancels Thompson Thursday Night Thunder after Qualifying; Modified Shootout Reschedule for Next Week

Thompson, CT — All day it appeared as if the weather was going to be held at bay for the racing events at Thompson International Speedway on Thursday. But with just five laps remaining in the TIS Modified feature event the skies opened up dumping rain on the five-eighth mile oval. Additional severe weather forced the postponement of the remainder of the event.

Next Thursday night, June 10, Jay Sundeen of Douglas, MA, will pick up the lead for the remaining five laps of the TIS Modified main event. The Super Late Models will be added to the program that will also include the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Sunoco Modifieds, Late Models, Limited Sportsman and Mini Stocks. The program will culminate with the Tour-Type Modified Shootout.

Qualifying on Thursday will be highlighted two qualifying heats for the Super Late Models and a consolation event for the Tour-Type Modifieds for additional teams who wish to participate.

Before the rains came qualifying heat races were held for all NASCAR All American Series divisions along with the Tour-Type Modifieds. Richard Savary of Canton, MA, and Mike Stefanik of Coventry, RI, earned an extra $100 for their victories in the 10-lap heat races for the Tour-Type Modifieds.

The excitement of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and the Tour-Type Modified Shootout will undoubtedly resume next Thursday Night. Thompson International Speedway will be honoring rain checks from the postponed program. For complete details visit thompsonspeedway.com or call the Speedway hotline at 880.923.2280.
