QUALIFYING: Silk Nabs First Stafford Pole

Brings Streak of Four Top Fives In A Row To Tonight’s Race

Stafford Springs, CT — Ron Silk – one of the hottest drivers in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour the last month – earned the Coors Light Pole Award Friday evening in advance of tonight’s Town Fair Tire 150.

Silk, from Norwalk, Conn., nabbed his first career pole at the Stafford half-mile, and the third of his career overall. Driver of the No. 12 T.S. Haulers/Calverton Tree Farm Chevrolet, Silk enters this week’s race on a streak of four-consecutive top-five finishes. His fast lap of 18.296 seconds (98.382 mph) bested Bobby Grigas III in his 2010 Whelen Modified Tour debut. Grigas qualified second at 18.397 (97.842).

Grigas was followed by Mike Stefanik, Ted Christopher, Todd Szegedy, Erick Rudolph, Rowan Pennink, Chuck Hossfeld, Ed Flemke Jr. and George Brunnhoelzl III in the top 10.

Following time trials, the top six qualifiers redrew for starting position and pole winner Silk will start sixth while Grigas and Rudolph will make up the first row. Christopher and Stefanik will be in Row 2 with Szegedy and Silk in Row 3.

The Town Fair Tire 150 is currently scheduled to take the green flag at 9:40 p.m.
