Invader From Long Island Wins First Vermonster

WEST HAVEN, VT – Mitch Patern of Southold NY made the long haul from Long Island to Devil’s Bowl Speedway pay off with a big win in Sunday’s Vermonster enduro. After 150 laps of racing on a beautiful fall day, Patern walked away with $1,500 for his first-place finish. The win was given to Patern after the apparent first-place finisher was observed removing an illegal rearview mirror from his windshield after taking the checkers. Second place was then awarded to Josh Masterson of Bristol Vermont, and third place to local Duane Pease of Fair Haven Vermont. Anice field of 45 enduro cars began the race, which had its share of squealing brakes, the crunch of metal, and one scary fire which was put out safely and quickly by the fire crew.

The BestDecorated Car with a Vermont Theme went to the cow-hide-covered car of Jim Wood from Queensbury NY. Unfortunately, this was also the car attended to by the fire crew later on in the race. Second place in the decoration contest went to James Carmichael of Whiting VT, who fielded a very nice two-sided Vt State Trooper/GameWarden paint job.

Winner of theLadies Powder Puff Enduro was Echolee Burt of South Glens Falls.

The renegades also raced 50 laps with Brandon Emigh taking the win, his second of the year. He was followed to the line by Robert Gorden, Chris Murray, Jeremy Jones, and Bill Duprey.

The next enduro on the CVRA circuit will be Halloween Havoc to be held at Albany-SaratogaSpeedway in Malta, NY on October 16th. The annual event has been expanded this year to include bicycle races for the kids (bring-your-own-bike) with prizes and giveaways for the whole family sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America.

Also, on October 16th Devil’s Bowl will be hosting the Who Needs Snow? grass and water drags for snowmobiles, followed by the last enduro race of the year on November 6th. Details on these and all events can be found on the website at www.cvra.com.
