Waterford Speedbowl 2011 Schedule of Events Set

Will offer six Saturday night races regularly in 2011; SK Light division added to limited schedule

Waterford, CT – Waterford Speedbowl’s 2011 schedule of events was released in early 2011, highlighted by the Saturday night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program increasing from five to six weekly divisions during regular race nights.

The 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship chase has 27 scheduled events taking place over a 6-month period. Budweiser Blastoff Weekend kicks off the 2011 New England racing season on April 1-3 featuring a 100-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series event on Sunday, April 3. In addition, the SK Modifieds® will compete in a special 61-lap race honoring the track’s 61st consecutive season, also on April 3. The popular NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites will also begin their seasons at Blastoff Weekend. In total, 14 divisions will be in action over the weekend with nearly 500 laps of feature racing to commence another season of racing in New England.

The SK Modifieds®, Late Models, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks will again be at the core of Saturday night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action. New in 2011, the Speedbowl will introduce a limited schedule of X-Modified and SK Light combination races on the Saturday night schedule. Each car will be eligible for competition according to the respective Waterford Speedbowl X-Modified and Stafford Motor Speedway SK Light rule books. They will compete in 20-lap races. The division will be part of the Speedbowl’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series lineup as its Division V representative and make its Speedbowl debut May 21. The Legends Cars will also be a frequent Saturday night division along with a Saturday Showdown Series for the track’s Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday series divisions during select Saturday programs.

Other highlights include the season-opener for the ISMA Supermodifieds on May 28 in a Memorial Day Weekend tradition for the shoreline oval. On Independence Day Weekend the annual mid-season 300 is back as a 6-division program with 300 laps of feature racing, including a 100-lap SK Modified® feature. The 4th annual Wings ‘n Wheels is planned for August 13 with the ISMA Supermodifieds, NEMA Midgets, Modified Racing Series and SK Modifieds®. Thunder on the Sound returns over Labor Day Weekend featuring the 15th running of the $5,000-to-win Budweiser Modified Nationals SK-150 on Saturday, September 3. The Speedbowl Finale closes the racing season October 7-9 with a 12-division weekend of racing.

The New England Truck Series will make multiple appearances at the Speedbowl in 2011, continuing on the tradition of Truck racing at the shoreline oval. The touring series began last season and quickly gained popularity. A special 50-lap event is planned on July 23 for the division. In addition to that event, the series will be on hand at Blastoff Weekend, April 30, June 18 and at Finale Weekend event October 7-9 with possible additional dates.

Touring divisions on the schedule include the two dates from the Valenti Modified Racing Series, ISMA Supermodifieds, and Pro Four Modifieds of New England. The NEMA Midgets and NEMA Lites, and Allison Legacy North Racing Series will make multiple visits, while the North East Mini Stock Tour and vintage racing groups such as the New England Antique Racers, STAR Tour and more also land dates on the 2011 schedule.

The track’s popular Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday schedule is also released. The mid-week series will see action in 20-events for its 11th season. It features weekly racing for the Legends Cars, Bandolero’s, eight-cylinder Super X-Car division and four-cylinder X-Car division. A weekly ‘wacky’ race is also part of the show.
