Super Late Models Take Center Stage This Week at Thompson

Thompson, CT — The NASCAR Whelen All-American Super Late Models top the bill this Thursday, June 9th, at the Thompson International Speedway. Race teams in this division will be featured in their annual extra distance main event of 50 laps.

The Super Late Model division will be faced with an additional 20 laps of competition for an more purse money and the bragging rights that go with winning the biggest race of the season for this very competitive division.

Going into the big night, Super Late Model points leader, Larry Gelinas will look to extend his points advantage over Jeff Connors and Michael O’Sullivan. The 2009/2010 division champion, Derek Ramstrom, is fourth in the current standings only 12 points behind leader Gelinas with Jim Banfield rounding out the top five. The tightness of the points standings is a good indication of just how competitive these race teams are.

Joining the Super Late Models will be the Sunoco Modifieds, Thompson Modifieds, Late models, XTRA/Mart Limited Sportsman and the Monster Mini Stocks.

One week later on June 16th, the Valenti Modified Racing Series rolls into Thompson for the first of two events this season. This touring series generates thrills and excitement every time they appear at Thompson. The most recent race winner and current points leader, Rowan Pennink will lead the likes of Chris Pasteryak, Les Hinkley, Doug Coby, Keith Rocco, Matt Hirschman Jon McKennedy and many more when the green flag drops on their 75-lap feature event.

Adding to the incredible June lineup at Thompson is the return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour on Thursday, June 30th. Rowan Pennink sits atop of the points chase in this division as well. However, his competition on the WMT includes drivers like Bobby Santos, Ted Christopher, Ronnie Silk, Eric Beers, Mike Stefanik, Ryan Preece, Todd Szegedy, Matt Hirschman and many more. Race fans are excited about the return of the WMT to Thompson in June. This event had been off the Tour’s schedule for the last couple of years but was added back to their itinerary when the 2011 WMT race schedule was announced by NASCAR.

In addition to the Thursday Night Thompson Thunder Series, Thompson Speedway also offers up fun and entertainment every Tuesday night with their all-new Holeshot Drags. These events are open to anyone with a vehicle that would like to participate. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, and more are welcome to join in on the fun.
