UNOH Showdown Next Major Event at Thompson

THOMPSON, CT. The second annual UNOH Showdown at the Thompson International Speedway is the next major event on the 2012 Thompson schedule. This unique race event brought rave reviews from fans last year and this year’s running is expected to be even more exciting. Showdown weekend will be Saturday, September 8th and Sunday, September 9th.

The UNOH Showdown brings together the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour in a three-race program that spotlights each division and then combines the two for a thrilling 50-lap, non-points race that is made up of the best of both touring series.

Each of the Touring divisions will go through their normal practice and qualifying procedures that will lead to the 75-lap Town Fair Tire race for the northern group and a similar 75-lap Greene Point Energy event for the southern tour. Upon completion of the 75-lap races, the two tours will be lined up and turned loose for a no holds barred UNOH 50- lap spectacle known as the Showdown.

In its inaugural year of 2011, it was Ryan Preece and Andy Seuss who won the Coors Light Pole positions for their respective points races. However, it was George Brunnhoelzl who won the Whelen Southern Modified Tour’s main event. Doug Coby claimed his division’s points race and then went on to win the first-ever, $50,000.00 plus UNOH Showdown. It was a banner day for Coby and the Milford, CT driver is looking for a repeat performance this time around. This two-day event will bring together the very best NASCAR Modified drivers in the country.

The UNOH Showdown weekend will also shine the spotlight on Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series division known as the “Super 6”. These exciting divisions are featured each week at the famed Connecticut oval and will play a very important role in the overall excitement of this weekend racing spectacular.

Lap sponsorship is available for the 50-lap UNOH Showdown race with the money donated going directly to the driver leading the lap sponsored. The sponsor’s name will appear on the big Lap Sponsor board on the grandstands as well as being published in the event’s official program. Additional publicity will be given when each lap sponsor’s name is announced on the track’s PA system.

Tickets for the UNOH Showdown weekend are available by calling the Thompson track office at 860-923-2280. It is an amazing weekend of racing along with all of the social activities so much a part of any multi-day race event at Thompson. The track’s Raceway Restaurant and Lounge will be the center of off-track activity and the championship golf course and driving range will also be a major attraction.
