SMS Broadcaster Joe Coss Nominated As a Finalist in the Unoh Battle at The Beach Announcer Search

Stafford Springs, CT)—Back in February, Daytona International Speedway announced that they would be hosting the UNOH Battle at the Beach, a short track event for Whelen All-American Series, Whelen Modified Tour, and K&N Pro Series teams. With the creation of this race, Daytona announced that they would be hosting an announcers search for this event. Stafford Motor Speedway broadcaster Joe Coss has been selected as one of five finalists to join the broadcast team for the UNOH Battle at the Beach.

Coss has an extensive background in broadcasting, announcing races at Stafford, Thompson, and Beech Ridge, as well as announcing drag racing events at Lebanon Valley Speedway. In addition to racing, Coss has experience announcing high school sports and college basketball. He says it was a huge honor to be selected as a finalist for the UNOH Battle at the Beach Announcer Search.

“I’m really honored to be in the top-5 and to be considered one of the best short track announcers in the country,” said Coss. “Some of the best announcers in the country entered that contest and to be among the top 5 is something really special. Having the opportunity to represent Stafford Speedway at the national level is something I’m really looking forward to. Stafford has had a tradition of cultivating some of the best broadcasters in the country with Jack Arute, Mike Joy, and Mike Massaro just to name a few. To be able to announce a race at Speedweeks and having that race being the premier short track event of the 2013 season, that’s not something that everyone can say they’ve done. It would be an unbelievable experience just to have a chance to go to Daytona, the world center of speed, leading up to the Daytona 500 and to have your voice at the Daytona international speedway.”

Coss is pitted against Jim Burns of Elko Speedway in Minnesota, Eric Huenefeld of Rockford Speedway in Illinois, Adam Mackey of Barberton Raceway Park in Ohio, and JW Martin of Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia. Fans can click the link on Stafford Speedway’s home page at www.staffordspeedway.com, or they can go to www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/announcer to place a vote for Coss and help send him to Daytona to be part of the UNOH Battle at the Beach announce team.

“It’s a tough field,” said Coss. “They’re all professionals and they’re all very talented. Looking at the depth of this competition, it would be pretty neat to be the winner because they all announce at premier facilities and they’re all professionals. I’d like to thank Mark and Lisa Arute for all their help throughout the nominating process and Linda Corliss for writing the initial nomination form that was submitted by Stafford. I also have to thank Ben Dodge because he’s been a mentor to me since the very first time I picked up a microphone. If it wasn’t for Ben, I wouldn’t have the skills and the tools that I have to be in this competition. Now I just have to get the word out to everyone to vote early and often!”
