Speedbowl to use Sunday 8/19 as “Wings & Wheels” rain date
Event would be completed on amended Sunday schedule if necessary
Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl officials have announced a plan to use Sunday, August 19th as a rain date for its 5th annual “Wings & Wheels” event, scheduled for this Saturday. The announcement was confirmed late Thursday with series officials from the International Supermodified Association (ISMA) and Northeastern Midget
Association (NEMA), the two visiting tours included in the event. The Speedbowl’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions including SK Modifieds®, Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Models, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks are also part of the event schedule. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, August 11th when weather concerns forced the postponement until this Saturday.
The use of Sunday as a rain date comes from concern over future availability for the visiting racing series’ competing at Wings & Wheels. “We are anticipating completing our Wings & Wheels event on Saturday, as planned. However, should weather interfere again we want to notify everyone our intent to use Sunday as a rain date for the full racing card” offered Speedbowl owner and promoter Terry Eames. “There’s a lack of available dates as we get late into everyone’s season, and officials from both tours felt this weekend is our best chance to complete the event.”
For Saturday’s event schedule, pit gates open at 12:00pm with rotating practice sessions beginning at 1:00pm for all divisions except ISMA. ISMA practice will begin at 3:00pm, with qualifying rounds starting at 5:00pm. Main events are scheduled to commence at 6:30pm Saturday. To accommodate the event on Sunday if needed, an amended event schedule would be announced with the Saturday postponement notice. The exact Sunday schedule would be dependent upon if any of Saturday’s scheduled activities are held, however activities would begin at approximately 12:00 noon on Sunday.*
Adult grandstands admission has been reduced to $33.00 from its original price, with youth admission of $10.00 for the Wings & Wheels racing card.
Last Saturday, the event was postponed which forced the Valenti Modified Racing Series 100-lap race to be moved to Saturday, September 8th. They will join the Speedbowl’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing program on that night. Truck Night, featuring the New England Truck Series and originally scheduled for August 18, has been moved to Saturday, September 22nd.
