PRACTICE: Lia Leads At Bristol
Recorded The Fastest Lap In The First Session
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Inaugural UNOH Perfect Storm 150 winner Donny Lia was up to his old tricks Wednesday morning at Bristol Motor Speedway as he posted the fastest lap across two practice sessions in advance of tonight’s fourth running of the NASCAR Whelen Modified-Whelen Southern Modified Tour combination race.
Lia, from Jericho, N.Y., laid down a fast lap of 14.603 seconds (131.398 mph) in first practice. His lap was well under the track qualifying record established by Justin Bonsignore in 2010 of 14.835 (129.343).
In fact, Lia was one of eight cars that were ahead of Bonsignore’s pace in the first practice. Todd Szegedy finished second on the chart at 14.647 (131.003) while Rowan Pennink was third at 14.691 (130.611). Ron Yuhas Jr. and Patrick Emerling round out the top five in the 80-minute first practice.
In final practice, where times slowed a bit, Mike Stefanik paced the 40-car field at 14.755 (130.044) followed by Ted Christopher (14.758/130.018) and Bonsignore (14.766/129.859).
Five cars were under the track record in final practice, with Lia sixth-fastest and right at the 14.835 mark.
Qualifying for tonight’s UNOH Perfect Storm 150 is set for 2:45 p.m. The race will be carried live on SPEED at 6 p.m.
