PRACTICE: Coby Paces Field at Thompson
Whelen Modified Tours Prepare For UNOH Showdown
THOMPSON, Conn. – Doug Coby had the fastest lap during practice at Thompson International Speedway on Saturday as NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour drivers prepared for the UNOH Showdown.
Coby's lap of 18.862 seconds (119.287 mph) was quickest of 45 drivers who participated in two 45-minute practice sessions.
Ryan Preece was second quick with a lap of 18.918 seconds (118.934 mph). He was followed by Ron Silk, Todd Szegedy and Eric Beers. Filling out the top 10 were Patrick Emerling, Jon McKennedy, Mike Stefanik, Jimmy Blewett and Donny Lia.
Each of the tours will complete in a 75-lap championship race on Sunday – the Town Fair Tire Northern 75 for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the Green Pointe Energy Southern 75 for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour – with the top finishers transferring to the UNOH Showdown.
Qualifying for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour is set for 3:45 p.m. ET on Saturday, while the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is scheduled to begin qualifying at 4:20 p.m.
