Racing, Camping, Family Fun and Patries Make Icebreaker Special

Thompson, CT — Race fans from up and down the east coast will gather at the Thompson Speedway this weekend for an experience like no other in New England auto racing. The Icebreaker, known as the most anticipated race of the year, offers winter weary fans their first look at the 2013 racing season at Thompson and the opening round in the championship battle for on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

The huge Thompson facility offers fans a first class experience that is not found at any other New England race track. The primary focus is, of course, centered around the largest and fastest track in southern New England. However, the Icebreaker experience is much more for fans choosing to take advantage of the beautiful 18 hole championship Raceway Golf Course and Driving Range, the comfortable Lounge and the huge restaurant that make Thompson such a unique racing destination.

Hundreds of race fans make Thompson their home for the weekend. Motor homes and travel trailers are dusted off and brought to the track for a weekend stay. Families and friends gather for fun and games before and after the on-track activities and evenings are spent partying well into the night.

Many fans love the opportunity to play a round or two of golf on Icebreaker weekend. In many cases, Icebreaker weekend offers golfers their first opportunity of the season to begin to polish up their games. Following a round of golf, the Raceway Restaurant and Lounge, better known as the “Club House”, is the destination of choice where great food, drink and conversation add to the incredible social activity lineup of the Icebreaker. It is there that competitors and fans alike start their day with the famous breakfast buffet and top off their day with an outstanding dinner.

Others like the opportunity to break out the gas grill in the camping area and invite old and new friends alike to join them for a meal served around a glowing campfire. For many, the camping area is a huge part of the charm of Icebreaker weekend. Thompson Speedway is also only a short drive to several large shopping areas in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Icebreaker weekend is, indeed, a weekend like no other and it is coming up this weekend, April 13 & 14, at the Thompson Speedway in Thompson, CT
