Shea Concrete to Crown ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA Super Series Champion

Oswego, NY — Oswego Speedway has long been known as the Home of Supermodifieds, but this race season will provide a first in the Speedway’s storied history.

The Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries will declare an Oswego Speedway winged Supermodified track champion over the course of four series dates beginning on Saturday, May 4. A $5,000 winged Supermodified point fund, provided by Ed Shea of Shea Concrete in Amesbury, MA, will be spread over the top five finishers in the four race Oswego series with a total of $2,000 in bonus cash going to the champion.

Shea, a former ISMA and Oswego Supermodified car owner as well as a member of the Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame, is honored to have the opportunity to help the drivers and teams he has come to know so well over his long history in the sport.

“I have always been an ISMA Supermodified guy, and I just love Oswego Speedway,” said Shea. “This is a great chance to help the guys out and hopefully help to draw more of the best to Oswego for what should be a great series.”

With driver Russ Wood, the Shea Racing team became a weekly threat anywhere they went in the early 1990’s. Shea’s team, sporting the familiar No. 27, would go on to claim ISMA championships in 1991 and 1994 scoring several victories along the way.

At Oswego Speedway, Shea earned the 1993 Car Owner of the Year Award and in 1994 Shea and Wood finished second in the chase for an Oswego track title, falling just 37 points shy of Doug Didero.

Along the way, Shea has developed Shea Concrete Products, one of New England’s largest and most reputable precast concrete manufacturers. Committed to producing the highest quality concrete products, Shea Concrete Products’ facilities, production, processes, and quality control operations consistently demonstrate a uniformly high degree of excellence.

The Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries will begin on Saturday, May 4 with the running of the ‘Gater Racing News/North Country Home Builders 50’ and return for round two on Saturday, June 8 for the ‘Crop Production Services 50’.

ISMA and Oswego’s mid-summer stretch will certainly heat up for round three on Saturday, July 13 as the prestigious ‘Burke’s Home Centers/Fleet Pride King of Wings V’ takes center stage with another 50-laps of main event action.

The series will then conclude on Saturday, August 31 with the running of the ‘Bud Light SuperNationals 60’ as a part of Budweiser International Classic Weekend, adding yet another special twist to an always memorable weekend of racing at the ‘Steel Palace’.

Oswego, which has been most notably known as a non-wing Supermodified facility, has no doubt built quite the record book of winged Super racing as well.

Oswego’s first winged Supermodified event was held on August 2, 1992 with Randy Ritskes flying to an unprecedented victory in the Paul Dunigan owned No. 26 machine over teammate Bentley Warren.

Over the course of 20 years of history the Speedway has now held a total of 40 winged Supermodified main events between ISMA, MSA, and Oswego sanctions with the 41st coming on May 4. During that 20-year span, Oswego has never held more than three winged Supermodified events in one season.

Since 1992, Chris Perley leads all drivers with seven career winged victories at Oswego. The ‘Rowley Rocket’ first visited Oswego victory lane in 1995 and most recently held the checkered flag at the ‘Steel Palace’ during the 2011 edition of Budweiser International Classic Weekend, in his final event run at the Speedway.

Dave McKnight and Tim Jedrzejek are tied for second on the Speedway’s All-Time winged Supermodified win list with four wins a piece. In total, 21 drivers have gone to victory lane at Oswego Speedway sporting a top wing.

Reserved tickets are already on sale for all four events on the Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA SuperSeries trail. Call the Oswego Speedway box office today at (315) 342-0646 to order.
