Fastest In Whelen Modified Tour Icebreaker Practice

THOMPSON, Conn. – Rowan Pennink paced the field during NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice for the season-opening Icebreaker at Thompson International Speedway.

Pennink, from Huntingdon Valley, Pa., posted his fastest lap just eight circuits into the 90-minute session at 18.646 seconds (120.669 mph).

Pennink will look for his first career Whelen Modified Tour pole during Coors Light Pole qualifying later today at 5 p.m.

Following Pennink on the speed chart Saturday was Justin Bonsignore at 18.651 (120.637) and Donny Lia at 18.655 (120.611). Mike Stefanik and Todd Szegedy rounded out the top five.

The remainder of the top 10 in practice included defending race winner Ron Silk, Woody Pitkat, Bobby Santos, Ryan Preece and Chuck Hossfeld.

Ted Christopher, the record-holder for most Icebreaker wins with four, was 14th on the board while reigning tour champion Doug Coby ranked 16th.

The Icebreaker is set to take the green flag on Sunday at approximately 3 p.m.
