Monadnock: Norton-Lavoie-Rivet-Sontag Winners on Eve of Cinco de Mayo Feature Races

Winchester, NH — Adam Norton took advantage of his outside pole starting spot and rocketed into the lead, past pole setter Eric LeClair, a lead Norton would never give up. This was no easy run for the Brookfield, MA driver as Joey Kendall, Tyler Jarvenpaa, Russ Hersey and a host of others challenged him for the lead. The first of 4 caution flags came on lap 11 when Brian Chapin and Bill Kimball made contact, sending Kimball into a spin off turn 4. The action picked up right where it left off while last weeks’ winner Dan Stebbins got into the mix making a pass on Hersey for 4th. Jarvenpaa made his move on Kendall and the two ran side by side for 3 laps before Jarvenpaa could gain the advantage.

On lap 22 Stebbins bid for win #2 came to an end when he spun in turn 4 with a damaged race car. On the ensuing restart Kendall got a slight advantage over Jarvenpaa and squeezed into the 2nd spot.

Meanwhile Brian Chapin, whom started deep in the pack was the hard charger of the night making his way to the front. After Dylan Bodreau and Alyssa Rivera got locked together and crashed hard into the turn one wall, Chapin found himself running in 5th behind Russ Hersey. On the single file restart, Chapin found more power and got by a fading Hersey. On the next lap, Kimball passed Hersey dropping the defending champ to 6th. The final pass saw Kendall, Jarvenpaa and Chapin putting pressure on the leader Norton, but Adam Norton crossed the finish line first, with Joey Kendall 2nd, Tyler Jarvenpaa 3rd, Brian Chapin 4th and Bill Kimball 5th.

The Always exciting Super Stocks ran their 25 lap feature with Tyler Lescord powering into the lead past the outside pole setter Nancy Muni. Lescord and Muni ran bumper to bumper until a lap 9 caution slowed the field. The restart saw Muni go to the outside groove where she got shuffled back to mid pack. Ken Springer now found himself in 2nd spot behind Lescord with last weeks’ winner Bill Johnston, John Lavoie and Craig Smith in hot pursuit. Springer wasn’t going to settle for 2nd and on lap 13 made his move on Lescord for the lead. In Lescords bid to keep pace he spun, bringing out the 3rd yellow flag of the race. When the dust settled the top 5 were Springer, Lavoie, Johnston, Smith and Tom Carey III. The restart saw Springer and Lavoie make slight contact, trading paint and Lavoie coming out with the lead. Carey III passed Smith on lap 15 and the 4th and final caution came out on lap 16 for a spin by Eddie Brehio III in turn 2. On the last restart Lavoie was done fooling around and pulled away from the rest of the pack, but Springer, Johnston, Carey III and Smith all ran a tight bumper to bumper race to the end with no one gaining any advantage.

The Mini Stocks always do a great job on the high banks of Monadnock and this was no different. The always popular Beth Adams blasted into the lead with Julia Raymond coming from the 2nd row to fall into the runner up spot. By lap 3, JT Cloutier, Mike Stebbins and defending champion Kim Rivet closed in on the leader. For the next 10 laps it was a 5 car draft running through lapped traffic. On lap 12 Rivet took advantage of a slower car and slid around Stebbins into 4th spot, and 4 laps later, put an inside move on Cloutier for 3rd.

A lap 18 yellow waved and slowed the field, with the restart having Rivet and Raymond exchanging places. Now Rivet set her sights on Adams and lap 22 gave Rivet the chance to use the inside groove. The pair ran side by side with Raymond in tow. Rivet finally gained the lead with 2 laps to go, and took her victory. The boys were not going to ruin this girls’ night out as Rivet #99 was first, Adams #87 was second, and Raymonds’ #62 was third over the finish line. This was history in the making with only girls placing 1,2,3 in Victory Lane at Monadnock Speedway.
