CARQUEST Champions for Charities Driver Spotlight: Bob Potter

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway has lined up an impressive field of current and former open wheel champions for its 3rd Annual CARQUEST Champions For Charities Event, which will take place on Friday, June 28th this season. During the coming weeks, SMS will offer a profile on each of its championship winning drivers and the charity they will be racing for and this week’s CARQUEST Champions For Charities spotlights falls on Bob Potter, the 5-time Stafford SK Modified® Champion, and he will be racing to raise funds for Compassion for Cats of New London County.

“I’ve always been a cat person and this is a great organization,” said Potter. “Carrie Nylen spends all her time and money taking in stray and abandoned cats and give them shots, they spay and neuter the cats, and they provide a home for the cats until they can find an owner to adopt the cats out to. She does it all for charity, so she isn’t making any money and that’s why I want to help her out. There isn’t a lot of people like Carrie out there today.”

While Potter is no stranger to the Stafford half-mile with 5 SK Modified® track titles and 24 career feature wins, he is still a relative newcomer to the Senior Outlaw Wild Thing Karts that the CARQUEST Champions For Charities drivers will be using.

“I’m really looking forward to the race, it’s so much fun to race those karts,” said Potter. “It’s a bit of a bumpy ride because the karts don’t have any suspension, but it’s a lot of fun to race against championship winning drivers and this race is all about helping out. I’m the kind of person who always likes to help out when I can because I believe if you help out enough, someday when you need help yourself, someone will be there to help you out. With the race on a Friday night instead of a Saturday, I think the race will be even more fun than it’s been the last 2 years.”

The CARQUEST Champions For Charities feature event won’t be the only time that Potter will be hitting the Stafford asphalt this season. Fans will have the opportunity to not only watch Potter speed around the half-mile once again in a modified, but they can actually purchase a Ticket 2 Ride with Potter thanks to Stafford’s 2-seater modified.

“The 2-seater is a lot of fun for me to drive,” said Potter. “The Sizzler weekend was a great time and both folks that I took out thought it was the greatest thing. I really enjoy being able to get behind the wheel, but not having to worry about the racing part of it. I’ve been able to meet some really great people so far, and everyone thinks it’s the greatest ride they’ve ever taken.”
