Champions for Charities Driver Spotlight: Ted Christopher

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway has lined up an impressive field of current and former open wheel champions for its 3rd Annual CARQUEST Champions For Charities Event, which will take place on Friday, June 28th this season. SMS has offered a driver profile on each of its championship winning drivers and the charity they will be racing for and this week’s final installment of the 2013 CARQUEST Champions For Charities driver spotlights falls on 2008 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion Ted Christopher, who will be racing to help support Racing Against Cancer.

Christopher previously raced in the CARQUEST Champions For Charities event in 2011 for the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative and it was through a friend of his wife’s that drew him to continue to raise money for cancer research.

“My wife worked with someone that had breast cancer,” said Christopher. “Cancer is something that affects a lot of people and families, so it means a lot to raise money for cancer research and you do what you can to help out.”

A big part of Christopher’s fundraising effort will be at Stafford Motor Speedway the day after the CARQUEST Champions For Charities race. The speedway will host A Racing Against Cancer™ Track Walk that will run from 9:30-11:30am on Saturday, June 30 prior to the feature events.

All funds raised from the track walk will be credited towards Christopher’s fundraising total for the CARQUEST Champions For Charities event. Race fans can register for the track walk by picking up a brochure in person at the track during a Friday night race event, in person at the Stafford Motor Speedway track office during the week, or by going online to the CARQUEST Champions For Charities page found on www.staffordspeedway.com and clicking on the Racing Against Cancer logo. The minimum donation required is $25 and fans can also donate online through the RAC website if they cannot attend the track walk.

While Christopher is Stafford’s all-time winningest driver with 118 career feature victories at the half-mile, he has yet to taste victory on Stafford’s mini-mile. Christopher placed 8th in his previous CARQUEST Champions For Charities appearance in 2011 and while he would like to add another victory to his Stafford resume, no matter where he finishes it’s all about raising money for a good cause.

“This race is all for a good cause and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Christopher. “I think it’s all going to depend on how good my kart is going to be, but I’m ok with go karts.”

The starting lineups for the CARQUEST Champions For Charities 15-lap feature will be determined by how much money each driver raises for their selected charity. The starting grid will be set with the drivers who have raised the most money starting up front. Fans are encouraged to get involved in the event by donating to their favorite driver or favorite charity.
