Helliwell Reclaims ACT Point Lead

Waterbury, VT — Following a second place finish at Canaan Fair Speedway in Canaan, NH last Saturday, June 15, defending American Canadian Tour Stock Car Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. has taken over the points lead heading into a double header weekend.

Helliwell jumped past sophomore talent Jimmy Hebert after mechanical failures on the Hebert machine during the 150-lap feature at Canaan Speedway. Hebert fought through the challenges to finish ninth, and held on to second place in the standings just 11 points behind.

Tiverton, RI’s Ray Parent improved to third overall after a top ten run on Saturday. Joey Polewarczyk, Jr.’s breakout victory at Canaan, his first since 2011, moved him up the standings from sixth to fourth, just 18 points away from the top three.

Brent Dragon, Brian Hoar, and Rookie of the Year leader Bobby Therrien fill the fifth through seventh spots, with Ben Lynch holding strong in eighth. Graniteville, VT’s Chip Grenier is tied for ninth with Turner, ME’s Glen Luce after Luce’s strong third-place finish at Canaan.

The American Canadian Tour will head into a critical mid-season double header this weekend as they travel to White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday, June 22 for a 150-lap event, followed by the rain make-up event at Groveton, NH’s Riverside Speedway on Sunday, June 23. Helliwell dominated the event at White Mountain Motorsports Park in 2012, leading every lap on his way to victory. Polewarczyk has finished second twice at the ‘Park,’ and Hebert and Parent finished in the top ten in their first visits to the track last year.

Rowland Robinson, Jr. will continue leading the Riverside 150 on Sunday, after completing 29 laps under green before the rains came on their first attempt. Hebert, local racer Randy Potter, Helliwell, and Grenier will complete the top five on the starting grid for Sunday’s race.

The American Canadian Tour resumes championship action this Saturday, June 22 at White Mountain Motorsports Park with a post time of 5pm. The weekend doubleheader will be completed on Sunday, June 23 at Groveton, NH’s Riverside Speedway with a post time of 1:30pm.
