QUALIFYING: Waterford Pole to Szegedy
Mr. Rooter 161 His First Pole Since 2011, 10th Of Career
WATERFORD, Conn. – Fastest in afternoon practice, Todd Szegedy backed it up in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour qualifying for the Mr. Rooter 161 as he earned the Coors Light Pole Award Saturday evening at Waterford Speedbowl.
Szegedy, driver of the No. 2 Dunleavy Repair/A&J Romano Construction Ford from Ridgefield, Conn., posted a fast lap of 13.833 seconds (97.593 mph) for the 10th pole of his Whelen Modified Tour career.
It marked Szegedy’s first pole in 10 career tour events at Waterford, and his first overall pole since 2011 at Lime Rock Park. He does have won trip to Victory Lane at Waterford to his credit, earned in 2004.
Defending Mr. Rooter 161 race winner Doug Coby will join Szegedy on the front row thanks to his fast qualifying lap of 13.963 (96.684) while last week’s winner at Stafford Motor Speedway, Ryan Preece, was third-fastest at 13.969 (96.643).
A two-time pole winner already this year, Bobby Santos qualified fourth followed by Justin Bonsignore, Cole Powell, Shawn Solomito, Bryon Chew, Eric Goodale and Ron Silk in the top 10.
The Mr. Rooter 161 is slated for a green flag tonight at Waterford at approximately 9 p.m.
