Stebbins Wins His Second of the Year

WINCHESTER, NH — On a warm night and a slick track Dan Stebbins of Bernardston, MA took little time in moving up from his fifth place start spot to overtake pole sitter Alyssa Rivera from Bellows Falls, VT on lap 6.

Keith Carzello of Somers, CT, whom started deep in the pack, made his presence known by racing past Joe Kendal of Winchendon, MA into third.

A lap 8 caution for last weeks’ feature winner, Tyler Jarvenpaa of Orange, MA, was the first of three quick yellows. The restart saw Carzello move into second with Glen Reen of Wilbraham, MA following for third. On lap 9, Rivera got tapped and spun on the back stretch. Adam Norton of Brookfield, MA and Eric LeClair of Easthampton, MA got collected up in the foray with the Norton ride receiving major front end damage. The lap 10 restart saw Jarvenpaa loop it in turn 4, bringing out the final yellow flag of this race. On the restart things settled down and the field ran single file with Stebbins stretching out his lead. By lap 20 Bill Kimball of Winchendon, MA was all over the blue and yellow #3, finally passing Reen 3 laps later to claim third spot. Kimball made an aggressive move on Carzello and passed him on the inside for second spot. With the end in sight, a smooth driving Jarvenpaa worked his magic on Reen and sailed by for third. At the end of 30 laps it was Stebbins with the Allstate Asphalt sponsored #5 taking the win. A hard charging Kimball was second, third was a happy but hurting Jarvenpaa. Fourth through eighth were Joe Kendall, Glen Reen, Brian Chapin, Keith Carzello, and Glen Griswold.

Tom Carey III Victorious in Super Stock Action

Tyler Lescord of Ascutney, VT and Jeff Morse of Cornish, NH brought the 19 car field to green and immediately the #00 Ben Poland of Charlestown, NH got a flat and caused the first of four yellow flags. At the restart, Lescord pulled into the lead over Morse, but on lap 3 Tom Carey III of New Salem, MA took second place away from Morse, chased down Lescord and made pass for the lead.

A lap 7 caution for the spinning cars of Craig Smith from Newport, NH, points leader Ed Brehio III from Baldwinville, MA and Nancy Muni from Harwinton, CT closed the pack up. On the restart, Carey III built up a sizable lead, while Dave Striebel from Hinsdale, MA put a move on Lescord for second. A lap later Bill Johnston from Athol, MA made his pass on Lescord for third. Apparently the track wasn’t wide enough for fifth place John Lavoie from Hancock, NH as he bounced off the front straightaway wall and then the back straightaway wall on lap 15. The next lap Lavoie and Leo Martin from Goshen, NH made contact in turns 3 and 4 and Lavoie spun out of contention. The last restart of this race gave Carey III no trouble as he pulled away with the lead. Johnston got his nose under Striebel and moved into the second position. For the remainder of the race the leaders strung out and at the checkered it was Carey III over Johnston with Striebel third, a determined Lescord fourth, and last week’s winner Dennis Stange from Athol, MA fifth.

Louie Maher Rules Mini Stocks

The luck of Louie Maher from Spencer, MA finally turned around for him as he took the Mini Stock win in a highly competitive race. Maher started in the third row and steadily moved around the leaders, taking command by passing Joe Rogers of Ludlow, VT on lap 8. A lap 13 yellow flag brought everyone under control for the moment and a lap 14 caution, the last of the race, tightened the fold again. With Maher leading, Mike Stebbins of Winchester, NH in second, points leader Chris McTaggart of Swanzey, NH in third, Beth Adams of North Swanzey in fourth, Joe Rogers was now in fifth.

On the restart McTaggart got by Stebbins for second but didn’t have the horses to pass the leader. While the checkered flag was waving for Maher, fourth place Adams wedged herself inside Stebbins in turns 3 and 4, made solid contact as they battled out of turn 4, still trading paint as they came down the front stretch, and seconds before they crossed the line Adams pulled off the pass for third. Stebbins was fourth, Kim Rivet of Chicopee, MA rounded out the top 5.

Third Young Guns Win for Cameron Sontag

Cameron Sontag of Sterling, MA claimed his third win of the season after leading from start to finish in the Young Guns feature race. Joe Collins of Winchester, NH came from fourth to finish in the runner-up spot and Sonja Carey of Swanzey, NH came from mid-pack to claim third place on the podium.
