Defending Champion Rises at Beech Ridge
SCARBOROUGH, ME — The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour returned to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway this past Thursday night for round two of VIP Thursday Thunder. Unlike last week, the drivers were greeted by beautiful weather all afternoon. After John Peters took his first win in round one he had to come from the rear of the field along with Evan Beaulieu and Kevin Girard Jr, which is no easy task in 25 laps with a 21 car field.
On the pole position was longtime Legends Car veteran, making his return in 2013, Wally Silva in the 66 car with defending champion Matt Bourgoine on his outside. On the start, Bourgoine was able to grab the lead from the outside of the track and begin to pull away on the rest of the field. It was a scramble behind him however, as the 59 of Reid Lanpher made his way into the second spot and tried to run down the race leader. With drivers hustling for position throughout the field, it was a fairly clean race and went caution free. At the finish, Bourgoine was able to hold off Lanpher, with Ryan Hammar rounding out the podium. Matt Grant finished in fourth with Chad Harrington rounding out the top five.
With the win, Bourgoine vaulted to the top of the point’s standings as Peters was able to maintain second spot with his eighth place effort in the race. Next week is set to be another interesting race, with Bourgoine, Lanpher and Hammar having to make their way from the rear of the field. It will all kick off at 7PM once again at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, with tickets only $4, and kids 12 and under get in for free.
