Bourgoine Takes Second Win of Thursday Thunder
SCARBOROUGH, ME — After three races in the VIP Thursday Thunder Series, the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour was back at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for round four of one of the most competitive series in all of Legends Car racing. After their top three in last week’s race, John Peters, Evan Beaulieu and Kevin Girard Jr. would have to start from the rear of the field in this week’s race. That always sets up for an interesting race, but that’s just three drivers of the 22 car field, and anything can happen.
Pulling the lowest pill to get him the pole position was the 38 of Matt Bourgoine with the 4 of Peter Craig on the outside. On the start, Bourgoine got out to the jump with Craig right behind in second. Matt Grant in the 84 car worked his way forward and worked his way around Bourgoine early on. The two did battle before the races first yellow flag flew after the 12 of Alicia Perry stalled down the backstretch on lap 16. On the restart, Bourgoine was able to get out in front once again, and he looked well on his way to a win until a caution lap 22 for the 49 of Pete Cannel set up for a late race restart. Bourgoine was able to get ahead again, while Ryan Hammar worked his way into the second spot. He tried to make a run on Bourgoine, but it wasn’t enough, as Bourgoine took his second win of Thursday Thunder! Hammar finished in second with Grant finishing third. Bob Weymouth and Tylar Braunschweig rounded out the top five.
With the win, Bourgoine was able to stretch his points lead to 15 points over eighth place finisher John Peters and 31 points over 10th place finisher Evan Beaulieu. It is still anyones championship though, as Bourgoine, Hammar and Grant will have to start at the rear of the field next week after their top three finishes. Next week races will include the popular autograph session after all the racing.
