Speedbowl Hosts INEX National Qualifier Races on Saturday

Legend Cars and Bandolero winners receive starting spot in national race

Waterford, CT — A big award awaits two winners at Waterford Speedbowl’s event this Saturday, July 20. The three-eighths mile shoreline oval hosts INEX national qualifier events for its Legend Cars and Bandolero divisions. Those events join a racing card of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series races as the Speedbowl returns to action following a scheduled night off last Saturday. Each race winner in the Legend Cars and Bandoleros will receive a guaranteed starting position in the divisions respective Asphalt Nationals events, put on by their sanctioning body, INEX.

The Legend Cars will compete in a 50-lap feature Saturday to send off the winner. A strong field is expected to turnout for the prestigious win. Lake Erie Speedway in Pennsylvania hosts the 2013 Legends Asphalt Nationals September 12-15. Nearly 200 teams are expected for the nationals, arguably the biggest event of the season for the division. Even more of a reason to believe the Speedbowl qualifier will bear close watching is the proximity and likeness of Lake Erie to the Speedbowl. A banner field of Legend Cars is expected Saturday for the chance to advance to the Asphalt Nationals.

“We have strong reason to believe we will be well represented at the Asphalt Nationals given the event is as close to us as its been in a long time, plus Lake Erie and Waterford are similar – semi-banked three-eighths mile ovals” offered Speedbowl owner Terry Eames. “Given the stature of that event and the turnout, a win Saturday at the Speedbowl will be huge for one of our teams”.

The 2013 Bandolero Nationals will be held in August at Bethel Motor Speedway just over the border in New York state. That event is equally attractive as several Speedbowl race teams have competed at Bethel in the past. Saturday’s Bandolero national qualifier at the Speedbowl will see the teams going 20-laps in distance for the honor.

“One of the great things about racing in our Legend Cars or Bandoleros is the chance to represent the Speedbowl on a national level” according to Eames. “The folks at INEX have a great format and we’re excited to send our race winners off on behalf of everyone involved in the two divisions at our track”.

Joining those two events on Saturday will be the return of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing to the shoreline. The SK Modified® leads the way with a 35-lap feature. Last time out, Tyler Chadwick of Ledyard outdueled Keith Rocco of Meriden in a memorable event by the division. They will be joined by 25-lap races for the SK Light Modifieds, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks. Main events begin at 7:00pm.
