Shelby Kimball, Jordan Pearson Share Speedway 95 Spotlight
HERMON, ME — Jordan Pearson of Glenburn and Shelby Kimball of Cornville finished one-two in the Keystone Automotive Strictly Street Pepsi Beverage Company series race at Speedway 95 Saturday night, giving Pearson his first win of the season and Kimball the three race series win. Pearson took the lead on lap 18 of the 35 lap feature when leader Dave Gray of Dixmont broke his transmission and headed for the pit. Kimball, who was running second, slowed for just a heartbeat behind Gray and Pearson, who was right behind Kimball, drove past her and into the lead. Kimball recovered to finish second, ahead of her brother Matt Kimball, also of Cornville, who finished third. Jim Bragdon of Corinth was fourth in the feature with Keith Ogden of Holden finishing fifth. In the three race Pepsi Beverage Company series, Kimball took the overall win with her brother Matt finishing in second. Alex Berry of Harrington finished third in the series despite finishing the night’s feature in seventh.
Ryan Deane of Winterport rolled to his fifth win of the season in the Dysart’s Late Models after passing early leader Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington on the 6th lap. A solo spin by Carmel’s Ryan Clark brought out the race’s only caution on lap 10, and Deane was able to hold his lead from the restart to the finish. Andy Saunders of Ellsworth came from near the rear of the 15 car field to finish in the second spot, with Orrington’s John Kalel II passing Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs on lap 20 of the 40 lap race to take the third spot. Seekins finished fourth with Ryan Modery of Hermon finishing fifth in a car loaned to him by Hermon’s Mike Hopkins, a part-time racer at the speedway.
Donny Silva of Hudson made it two in a row in the Sport-Fours, but it took a late race caution to give him a shot at the win. Bradley Dolan of Glenburn had been leading the 25 lap feature from the drop of the green until the caution flag fell on lap 23. In the three lap dash to the end, Silva, who had worked his way up from an 11th place start to be running second when the caution flew, was able to pass Dolan on the restart and hold the lead to the end. Dolan finished second with Ted Ryder of Carmel in third. Darren Durrell of Newburgh finished in fourth with Denis Burns of Carmel finishing fifth.
Kris Watson of Hermon passed early leader Kris Matchett of Skowhegan on a 16th lap restart in the 25 lap Darling’s Ford Sportsman feature and held Matchett at bay to the checkers. Matchett finished a close second with pole sitter Joe Legere of Milford coming in third. Fourth went to Bradley Norris of Ellsworth with Bradley Smart of Bradley finishing fifth.
Garett Hayman of Milford passed Denis Burns of Carmel on the 7th lap of the 20 lap Bomber feature and kept Burns behind him the rest of the way to take the win. Burns finished in second, ahead of Newport’s Mark Lane, who finished third. Alex Runci of Frankfort, who moved up from the Wednesday night Stars of Tomorrow division, finished fourth in his first race in the Bombers, with Bangor’s Scott Bonney finishing in fifth.
Saturday night racing continues at Speedway 95 on August 17, when the Sport-Four Division will wrap up it’s three race Coca-Cola Bottlers of New England series. Kevin Hartley of Hermon currently leads the series after two of the three races with a 10 point lead over Jim Goodman Jr. of Orrington. Hermon’s Andrew Crosby is third, 2 points behind Goodman. The Dysart’s Late Models will race 40 laps that night, with the Darling’s Ford Sportsman and the Keystone Automotive Street Stocks racing 25 laps each. The Bombers will run their regular 20 lap feature.
