McDaniel & Garbo Split Twins On Gaston Rentals Night at the Races presented by Hyperformance Graphics
NEWTON, NC — It was beautiful afternoon at Hickory Motor Speedway and a welcomed break from the rain for Gaston Rentals Night at the Races Presented by Hyperformance Graphics with Advance Auto Parts. The Bojangles Late Models would be racing Twin 50 lap races and all other divisions would be awarded double points tonight for the makeup date of August 17th.
First up would be the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bojangles Late Models for their first of two 50 lap races tonight. Starting on the pole would be the #8 of David Garbo Jr., with the #12 of Austin McDaniel starting on the outside of row 1. Garbo would take the early lead with McDaniel and the #80 of Blake Jones racing hard behind him. On lap twenty-two Garbo’s car would begin to smoke. As the smoke continued to become worse, the officials would black flag Garbo to come to the pits and correct the problem. Meanwhile, on lap twenty-four the #67 of Jacob Harrell would spin in turn four. Garbo would return to the track but would retire on lap twenty-seven. McDaniel would remain in the lead with Jones and the #97 of Keith Bumgarner closing on him. Jones would get to McDaniels bumper but McDaniel would take the victory. At the checkered flag it would be McDaniel, Jones, the #4 of Jack Madrid, Bumgarner and the #25 of Matt Piercy.
The second race of the night would be the Street Stocks with the #22 of Ben Ebeling and the #33 of Mark Whitten starting on the front row. Whitten would take the early lead from Ebeling while the #64 of Marshall Sutton makes a move to third position. On lap eleven the #18 of Troy DeMarmels would spin in turn two. Lap twelve the #1 of David Snyder would spin at the entrance of pit road bringing out another caution. On lap eighteen the #52 of Don Machutta got loose and grazed the backstretch wall and but would regain control of his car and continue racing. Coming to the checkered flag it is Ebeling, Whitten, Sutton, the #03 of Kevin Eby and the #3 of Baron Kuritzky.

The K & P Construction 4 Cylinders would be next with the rookie #98 of Chase Pollard on the pole and the #99 of Matthew Elledge starting second. Pollard would jump out to an early lead over Elledge. On lap twenty-three the #51 of Nathaniel Kanupp and the #21 of Eddie Gilbert would make contact in turn four, but both drivers regained control and continued racing to the checkered flag. In the end it would be Elledge (who dedicated this win to Donnie Harmon –his follow competitor in the 4 Cylinders division who recently passed away), Pollard, Kanupp, Gilbert and the #4 of Adam Beaver.
On the pole for the Paramount KIA Limited Late Models would be the #00 of Shane Lee with the #07 of Josh Bralley starting second. On the first lap the #09 of Kyle Mansch, the #18 of Casey Pierce and the #51 of Jeremy Pelfrey would be three wide entering turn three causing Mansch to go high and unfortunately lose several positions. On lap sixteen the #25 of Allen Huffman would spin in turn two to bring out the next caution. On the restart the #75 of Landon Huffman would take the lead from Lee while the #15 of Justin Bolton moves into the third position. On lap twenty-four the cars of Pierce and Bralley would make contact in turn two bringing out another caution. Caution would wave again on lap twenty-four when several cars where battling for position and got caught up into an accident in turn 3. Lap thirty-five the checkered flag would wave for Landon Huffman, Bolton taking second, Lee with third, Pierce fourth and the car of Mansch taking fifth.
The WrenchRags Renegades would start with the #2 of Charlie Neill and the points leader #16 of Carroll McKinney bringing them to the green flag. Caution would fly on lap one for a spin involving the #69 Ben Campbell. On the restart Neill would resume the lead with McKinney running second. On lap six the #71 of Kyle DiVanna and the #77 of Shawn Hayes would make contact in turn three, the #68 of Steve Griffith would be collected in the accident. All cars would continue. On lap fifteen Campbell would spin in three and four, and need assistance to push him into the pits. Neill would go on to take the victory, followed by Hayes, McKinney the #22 of Daniel Moore and the #09 Blake Walker.
The second 50 lap race for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bojangles Late Models had the #12 of Austin McDaniel and the #80 of Blake Jones starting on the front row. McDaniel would jump out to the early lead with Jones second and Garbo third, meanwhile a battle between the #00 of Shane Lee, the #25 of Matt Piercy and the #4 of Jack Madrid would take place for fourth-sixth positions. On lap seven the #97 of Keith Bumgarner engine would expire ending his night. On lap thirty-two the car of would Jones take the lead from McDaniel. However, on lap thirty-five the #8 of David Garbo Jr. would overtake Jones for the lead, moving McDaniel to third. At the flag it would be Garbo Jr., Jones, McDaniel, Madrid and the #22 of Dan Moore rounding out the top five.
