NEWS GALORE AT OPS

OXFORD, ME — There is a ton of new news and excitement at Oxford Plains Speedway as we are on high speed mode, gearing up for the 2014 racing season. Here is a sampling of what’s happening at OPS!

OPS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES BANQUET SOLD OUT

It will be standing room only at the Oxford Plains Speedway championship banquet scheduled for Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Fireside Inn & Suites in Auburn. We are very pleased that we have filled up our allotted space, and are looking forward to a great night of entertainment and fun. DJ Jesse Lee Butler will be entertaining us with music following the awards ceremony. Rooms with discounted rates are still available and can be reserved by calling the Fireside Inn & Suites at 207-777-1777.

MINI-CUP CARS TO RETURN

The Mini-Cup cars will return to the Speedway in 2014. They will become part of the Friday night, Oxford Championship Series lineup. These Rigid Mini-Cup Cars will be racing on the front-stretch on a specially designed track. In the past they raced on the entire 3/8 mile track, but this year a new course is in the process of being designed. The Mini-Cup Racers will be offered a purse which will be $75 to win, 2nd – 50, 3rd – $40, 4th – $30, 5th – $20, 6th on back will pay $10. There will be a $25 license fee for each driver that will cover the initial insurance costs. Rules and more information will be announced in the very near future, as well as an organizational meeting will be put together very soon, hopefully before the holidays. License forms can be found on the website, and you can start applying for numbers now. They will be passed out on a first come, first serve basis.

GO KART RACING TO RETURN TO OXFORD PLAINS SPEEDWAY

The decision has been made to bring back the go-karts to Oxford Plains Speedway in 2014. After a very solidly attended meeting over a week ago, we feel that there is enough interest to bring the sport back to OPS. Thursday nights will be the main night for racing, but we are also looking at the possibilities of some Saturday mornings dotting the schedule. A meeting will be held, hopefully prior to the holidays to setup the program, draw up the rules package, and get the go-karts prepared for an exciting 2014. And YES, the track on the backstretch will be repaired. We are also looking into bringing novice Mini-Cup Cars into the folds. This would be for beginners only, and management will withhold the right to move them up as deemed necessary.

CRUISERS, FORMERLY RENEGADES, BACK IN 2014

6 cylinder racing will return to the Wednesday night, Oxford Acceleration Series in 2014. The division formerly known as Renegades, will be called Cruisers next year. Every car in the Cruiser division will have a nickname on the side that will have something in common with the good old days. Such ideas can be the “Jimmy Dean Mobile”, “The Elvis Wagon” etc. Get my drift? This division will be highly entertaining and I think with some fun promotion these guys and ladies will make a big splash on their return to Oxford. Rules are being drawn up as we speak, and we are looking to have an organizational meeting before the first of the year. License forms can be found on the website, and you can start applying for numbers now. They will be passed out on a first come, first serve basis.
