Bowen Signs with Cunningham Motorsports for 2014

Sixteen-year-old Anderson Bowen has signed to compete in 8-9 races with Cunningham Motorsports. The races will be a mixture of short track races on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) schedule. Bowen, who is now legal to drive street cars—having just received his driver’s license in November—has been driving race cars for 12 years. The teenager from Suwanee, Georgia competed under the Cunningham banner during the 2013 season in 3 ARCA Series races, along with 2 NKNPSE races.

In his first ARCA Series race, Bowen started and finished third at Mobile International Speedway. In his first of two NKNPSE races, he qualified on the pole at Iowa Speedway. In addition, Bowen raced numerous races with his family-owned Anderson Bowen Racing team. He completed his 2013 season this past weekend by finishing 25th in the prestigious Snowball Derby in Pensacola, Florida.

During his announcement, co-owner Kerry Scherer said, “When we signed Anderson last year, we knew we were getting a talented young driver. We didn’t realize how talented. Anderson is going to be a big winner in his career. We are privileged to be a part of his developmental years.”

Plans for Anderson’s 2014 season will include some of his favorite ARCA tracks. He will race in March at Mobile International Speedway, where he made his ARCA Series debut last season, at Winchester Speedway and Lucas Oil Raceway (LOR), both in July. In addition, Bowen’s schedule will include four NKNPSE races—Bristol Motor Speedway in March, New Hampshire Motor Speedway between his ARCA races at Winchester and LOR, Iowa Speedway in August and Dover International Speedway in September.

Prior to the announcement Bowen commented, “Re-signing with Cunningham this year is another huge opportunity for me. We had such a great year last season. Finishing third in my first ARCA start at Mobile International Speedway was huge….as was qualifying on the pole for my first K&N start at Iowa Speedway. This year I am going back to a lot of my favorite tracks and tackling some new ones with Cunningham. I am super excited to go to my favorite track, Winchester, where I have had some good luck in the past. In addition, I am ready to conquer some new tracks in the K&N Series like New Hampshire, Bristol and Dover. I am really looking forward to this 2014 season with Cunningham!”
