Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway Becomes Southern Super Series Points Event

March 14-16 Event Joins Other Prestigious Short Track Events Under SSS Banner

CONCORD, NC — Southern Super Series officials and management of South Alabama Speedway in Kinston, Alabama announced today that the 38th Annual Rattler 250, March 14-16, will be held under the sanction of the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco and will be the first points-paying event of the 2014 SSS season.

With the addition of the Rattler to the 2014 series schedule, the Southern Super Series continues to build on its strong foothold as a premier Super Late Model series in the Southeast. With prestigious events such as the All American 400 at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville, the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park, the Alabama 200 at Montgomery Motor Speedway and now the Rattler 250, the Southern Super Series continues to be the home of the most prestigious Super Late Model events in the Southeast.

“The Rattler has been a premier short track event for almost four decades and it’s a feather in the Southern Super Series’ cap to have it as a point event in 2014,” said Dan Spence, SSS Series Director. “John Dykes, his family and staff at South Alabama Speedway have put on an incredible event for years and we are honored to be a part of this year’s Rattler.

“With the addition of The Rattler to events like the Alabama 200, the World Crown 300 and the All American 400, we are proud to have some of the most high-profile Super Late Model events in the country on our series’ schedule.”

Since its inaugural running in 1974, The Rattler has been won by short track legends as Pete Hamilton, Dave Mader III, Ronnie Sanders, Bobby Gill, Bubba Pollard and 2013’s victor Kyle Benjamin. When the checkered flag flies on this year’s running of the 250-lap Super Late Model event, South Alabama Speedway will see its first Southern Super Series Rattler winner.

“I am very excited about the SSS coming to South Alabama to kick off our season opener,” said MaLeah Hill, Operations Manager of South Alabama Speedway. “I personally followed the SSS races all last year and love all the excitement that went along with the series as well as the great car counts. I am grateful for the series and Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville for adding us to their schedule as the season opener. We’re looking forward to March and to the SSS coming to South Alabama Speedway.”

“We are excited about having the Southern Super Series to come on board with us this year for the 38th Running of the Rattler 250,” added Kevin Chance, Race Director of South Alabama Speedway. “Hopefully this will be beneficial to us and to the series. Last year the series not only had a great car count, but the quality of drivers were tremendous.”

With the addition of the Rattler as the season-opener for the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco, Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville will play host the second event of the 2014 season on Saturday, April 5. View the full 16-race Southern Super Series schedule on www.southernsuperseries.com.
