Rookie Billy Childs Jr. Rocks the Field at Oxford Plains Speedway
OXFORD, ME — For the first time this season, the Budweiser Oxford Championship Series was run on its normal scheduled Friday night, and the fans once again were treated to an awesome night of racing. Winners included Billy Childs Jr., Spencer Morse, David Tripp and Cam Childs.
For the second consecutive week in the Budweiser Pro Late Models, a newcomer to the division slipped out of town with the $1,500 first place check and the hardware that went with it, as rookie driver, Billy Childs Jr. held off a twenty-nine car field to pick up his first career Pro Late Model victory. However it was no easy task as he was challenged from lap 40 til the checkered flag waved. Kyle Desouza had an awesome car considering he destroyed it last Sunday afternoon. Desouza dogged Childs over the final ten laps only lose the fight to Tim Brackett on the white flag lap. Child’s edged out Brackett, Scott Moore, Shane Green and Desouza to claim the victory. Scott McDaniel, Kyle Treadwell, Kevin Douglass, Scott Farrington and Jeremy Davis completed the top ten. Heat checkers fell for Jeff Burgess, Justin Drake and Trevor Sanborn.
Keith Stuart led twenty-eight of the thirty lap main event in the Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stock main event before losing the lead with two to go to “The Outsider” Spencer Morse, allowing Morse to capture his first win of the 2014 season. Stuart hung on for second while BJ Chapman, Kyle Hewins and Josh Childs completed the top five. Stuart and Morse won their respective qualifiers.

David Tripp dominated the Ripley and Fletcher Ford Outlaw Sportsman 25 lap feature as he left Troy Jordan, Guy Childs Sr., Bryce Mains and Jerry Freve in the dust. Tripp and Steve Moon claimed qualifying wins.
Cam Childs won the highly competitive Bandito’s feature as he held off repeated challenges from runner-up Derek Cairns as well as third and fourth place finishers Jamie Heath and Dan Wade. Randy Henderson completed the top five.
The Wednesday night Oxford Acceleration Series kicks off this Wednesday, June 11th at 7pm. On the card will be Outlaws, Ladies, Runnin’ Rebels, Sport Trucks and Cruiser. Then next Friday night Applebee’s presents the card of racing which will feature the inaugural race for the new PASS Northeast Late Model Series featuring some of the top Late Model drivers in the Northeast racing 100 green flag laps. Also on the card will be the Pro Late Models, Street Stocks, Outlaw Sportsman, and Bandito’s. Post time is 7:30pm.
