Diehard Racer & Champion Joe Winne To Be Remembered Tuesday, Aug. 5 At Accord Speedway During New York Truck Parts ‘Battle of the Bullring 2’ Special; $555-to-win ‘Dash for Cash’ Planned Thanks To Zubi’s Racing & Jim Winchell; Modified Record-Setting Purse Pays $5,200 To Win, $520 To Start!

ACCORD, NY – A diehard racer and champion will be honored at Accord Speedway on Tues., Aug. 5 (rain date: Aug. 6) when New York Truck Parts Inc. presents the ‘Battle of the Bullring 2’ special.

Joe Winne, the accomplished Accord Modified and Late Model racer who passed away during the 2000 Eastern States Weekend at N.Y.’s Orange County Fair Speedway, will be remembered with the second running of the Joe Winne Memorial Dash for Cash for the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP big-block/small-block Modifieds. Winne was the 1999 Accord 358-Modified champion in his penultimate season of racing.

The ‘Battle of the Bullring 2’ is headlined by a 52-lap Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP Modified event paying $5,200 to win plus bonuses, with $1,020 reserved for the eighth-place finisher and $520 to take the green flag. The $520 green money is a new record for the Ulster County facility. The midweek special is a co-promotion involving BD Motorsports Media LLC and Accord Speedway management.

The ‘Battle of the Bullring 2’ is Round No. 4 of the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP in the race for the $10,014 series championship.

Competitors will also be eligible for a long list of contingency awards distributed at each event on the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP six-race schedule. There will lap money and much more, making for a lucrative night at the Big A!

Sportsman (Open vs. Crate 602 with staggered weights) complete the program in a 25-lap event paying $1,000 to the winner and $100 to take the green flag.

The top passing-points earners in each of the Modified heat events will transfer to the Joe Winne Memorial Dash for Cash. The Dash will offer $555 for five quick laps around the quarter-mile. All participants will be paid thanks to sponsors Dave Zubikowski of Zubi’s Racing and Jim Winchell.

In 2013, track regular Jerry Higbie Jr. of Newburgh, N.Y., earned a $555 payday as the Joe Winne Memorial Dash for Cash winner.

Last year’s inaugural ‘Battle of the Bullring’ was a crowd-pleaser. Track regular Danny Creeden of Wurtsboro, N.Y., swapped the lead with invader Mike Mahaney and fended off a charging Jackie Brown Jr. to earn $5,925 in the most prolific victory of his career. Brown had actually been towed off the track on the opening lap, completed repairs and drove through the pack to finish second. At one point Mahaney, Creeden, Brown, Mike Ricci and Andy Bachetti were locked in a five-car tussle for the lead.
