Seekonk Debuts Renovated Pit Area

SEEKONK, MA — One year after the project began, Seekonk Speedway’s pit area has expanded to the front parking lot. 50 additional spots will be available for the Pro Stock and Late Model teams. It is surrounded by walls adjacent to victory lane with gates. A gate on either side will allow the teams in the front pits to leave quicker.

The expanded pits will accommodate the race teams trailers, allowing them to work from their trailer. Teams will no longer have to unload and reload their equipment at the end of the night.

The former Pro Stock wall will now be used as a hot pit for the teams’ pit boxes during a feature.

“We decided to put it up here so that it has better visibility from the road and it’s easier,” Marketing Director Ed St. Germain said. “That way everybody has all asphalt to pit on instead of having to pit on half dirt, half asphalt.”

More projects are in the planning stages for the 69-year-old 1/3 mile oval.

“There’s more stuff in the plans for hopefully next year and the year going forward after that. We’re working on a long-term plan to turn some things into different areas of use at the speedway.”
