Max Zachem Scheduled to Drive #6 Sunoco Modified for Mertz Racing

NASCAR All American Series Sunoco Modified car owner Stan Mertz officially announced today that Max Zachem will take over behind the wheel of his Mertz Racing No. 6 modified in September 4, 2014 Double Feature event at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

With the addition of Zachem to the Mertz Racing program, current driver and owner Stan Mertz has decided to step out of the seat to concentrate on car owner duties. This was Stan’s second year competing in the Sunoco Modified division after seven years of competition in the Pro Four Modified series.

“I’m excited to see Max in the car for this event, I’ve watched him race over the past few years and have been impressed with his abilities,” Mertz said. “I know he will perform to our expectations and show the power that our Ashaway Performance Engine package truly has.

This will also be Zachem’s first start ever in a Sunoco Modified at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. When asked about this new ride, Zachem replied, “I’m excited for the opportunity Mr. Mertz has given me. I can’t wait to be out with best modified drivers in the northeast at the premier facility Thompson Motorsports Park.”

Mertz Racing has competed in all of the 2014 NASCAR All-American series events at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park as well as the Tri-Track Series events with Woody Pitkat as the driver.

Since the 2010 racing season, Max Zachem, has been competing on the Valenti Modified Racing Series. He has been in the Top 10 in points every season and accumulated many special awards that include 2010 Dart Steel Head Champion, 2011 Sportsman of the Year, 2012 SPAFCO Most Improved Driver, and 2013 Most Popular Driver. As of Aug 24th, 2014, Max has 13 Top 5s and 39 Top 10s in his modified career on the VMRS. Max also made his debut on the Whelen Modified Tour at Thompson Motorsports Park in 2013 finishing 6th in the World Series.

Mertz Racing purchased a new 2014 Troyer Modified from Northeast Racecars at the beginning of the season. The car is prepared by the team at APE Motorsports and powered by Ashaway Performance Engines.
