Vermont 200 Weekend Saturday Card Washed Out, Sunday Main Event Schedule Adjusted
Shootouts to be run at noon prior to qualifying
WEST HAVEN, VT – Rains wreaked havoc at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Saturday, washing out the opening day of the Mekkelsen RV Vermont 200 Weekend. Sunday’s program – which features a clear weather forecast – has been adjusted to provide a blockbuster day of stock car racing action, complete with a meet-and-greet autograph session with NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Allison.
The annual 10-lap non-winner “Shootout” races have been rescheduled to Sunday, September 14, and will be held at 12:00 noon before the regular action begins. First-round qualifying for the Bond Auto Parts Modified and Late Model divisions begins at 1:30 p.m., followed by twin-segment feature races for the Renegade and Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock divisions, twin 50-lap Modified features, a 100-lap Late Model finale, and a 50-lap Enduro Series race.
Todd Stone and Joey Roberts will decide the Devil’s Bowl Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Vermont State championships between themselves; Stone leads Roberts by 35 points in the Devil’s Bowl standings and by just six points in the NASCAR state title race. Leon Gonyo, third in both standings, blew an engine on Saturday morning, but is expected to return on Sunday. Twenty-one Modifieds took practice laps on Saturday morning before rains moved in.

The Late Model event will be a high-pressure situation as two championships will be decided in that race as well. Jamie Fisher, Josh Masterson, and Emily Packard are knotted just 15 total points apart in the Devil’s Bowl standings, while Nick Sweet and Jason Corliss will vie for the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series crown.
By virtue of showing up on Saturday and collecting their appearance points, Robert Gordon and Chuck Bradford have clinched the Renegade and Mini Stock division championships, respectively. Management from the Maine-based North East Mini Stock Tour – which brought 17 teams to race on Saturday – chose to opt out of the Sunday make-up date for its 25-lap main event.
Sunday’s general admission ticket remains $20; any Saturday-only $10 tickets will be honored toward the purchase of a Sunday admission ticket. As a result of the rain and rearranging of the Sunday schedule, grandstand gates will now open at 10:00 a.m.
