Stafford Speedway DARE Stock R.A.D. Automachine Rookie of the Year Trace Beyer Raises $3,528 For Michael C. Robson Scholarship Fund

Stafford Springs, CT — In the season ending NAPA Auto Parts Fall Final Weekend at Stafford Motor Speedway, DARE Stock competitor and Brewster, NY native Trace Beyer closed out his R.A.D. Automachine Rookie of the Year winning season in fine style with a 5th place finish.  But Beyer’s fifth place finish turned out to be worth so much more than 42 points towards his season total.  Based on his finishing 5th, Beyer was able to raise $3,528 for the Michael C. Robson Scholarship Fund.

Beyer and Robson were best friends who grew up together and lived down the street from one another.  Robson passed away during Hurricane Sandy and a scholarship fund was established in his name.  The Michael C. Robson Scholarship fund will present a graduating senior each year from North Salem High School with $1,000 to apply towards tuition at the college of their choice.  With Beyer raising $3,500, he has covered the next three graduation ceremonies at North Salem High School.

“My friend was killed during Hurricane Sandy and this scholarship was founded in his name,” said Beyer.  “I thought that the Fall Final would be a good race to help raise some money for the fund based on where I finished in the race.  We had people pledge money and whatever they pledged was multiplied based on where I finished.  We ended up finishing 5th and we raised $3,500.  We had almost 30 people make a donation and we collected all the checks and gave them to the Robson family.  We also printed out a big check with the dollar amount on it that we presented to Michael’s parents, Mike and Theresa.  It really meant a lot to me knowing I was able to give something back to them because they’ve always been there for me growing up.  It was a really good feeling.”

With the final donation amount that Beyer was going to raise being solely based on how well he finished in the Fall Final feature, the opportunity for Beyer to apply pressure on himself must have been immense, but he says that he handled it just like he would any other race.

“During the race I wasn’t really thinking about it, I was just trying to get the best finish I could like any other race,” said Beyer.  “Once I got home from the track and I started adding everything up, I really thought about how well we did with the money we raised and I was really proud of myself that we were able to raise that much money.”

With a successful season behind him not only on the track, but with the $3,528 that he raised for the Michael C. Robson scholarship fund, Beyer says that he plans to raise money again for the fund at the Fall Final in 2015.

“We plan on coming back and running the DARE Stock car again next year,” said Beyer.  “Our goal is to come back and get another top-5 or top-3 in the points.  I think we’ll do something again with the Fall Final race for another fund raiser for the Michael C. Robson Scholarship Fund.”

With Beyer recording 1 win, 8 top-5, and 13 top-10 finishes in his first season of racing a stock car after making the move up from the go kart ranks, he can hopefully raise even more money for the Michael C. Robson Scholarship Fund at next year’s NAPA Fall Final with experience on his side.  Fans wishing to make a direct donation to the Michael C. Robson Scholarship Fund can send their contributions to the Michael C. Robson Scholarship Fund, c/o 21 Bonnieview Street, North Salem NY 10560.
