Blais Going Late Model Racing

AustinBlaisLM1620141122Austin Blais will be doing more Late Model racing next season at Seekonk Speedway. The Somerset, MA driver has purchased the No. 46 car, which Dylan Estrella drove to eight victories and finished second in points last year. The car will “look a little different” for the season opener. Blais finished fourth September 6 in his debut for Tom Moreshead.

“We were looking at Late Models when this car became available,” Blais said. “We put some finances together with the help of our sponsors and we got it.”

Blais plans on racing full-time at Seekonk in 2015, but said he is “looking to go to other tracks” as well. His goals are “finish all the laps, be competitive and try for a win,” said the former SYRA 750 champion and Street Stock Rookie of the Year.

“We had some tough decisions to make along those lines. By going Late Model, we had to give up our engine sponsor, Taylors Garage. He was a huge part of our success and a great person. We hope to do something with him in the future. I need to thank my crew Dad ,Ed Gannon ,Marc Lebrech, Gary Gannon, these old guys know how to get it done , Legacy Supply, TS Homes. and that’s it right now, but we’re always looking for new sponsors.”

He finished second in the Sims Street Stock points with five wins, 10 top fives, 14 top 10s. After 18 races, the Legacy Supply No. 16 had an average finish of sixth place.

“Most people go their whole career and don’t have that kind of success. It was a dream season with no regrets. The most fun I had was going to Lee and Thompson. Doing as well as we did helped us make the decision to go Late Model so we can race other tracks.”
