Astle & Sprague to Join Wall of Fame

Seekonk (MA) Speedway will add two inductees to the WPRO AM Wall of Fame on May 23.

Deke Astle, Sr. of Westport, MA scored 28 victories at the Cement Palace in a three decade career (tied for 25th with George Ponte and Norm Holden). A champion at the old Lakeville Speedway, he won at Thompson and Westboro as well. He was inducted last November into the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame.

Bobby Sprague collected at least 59 wins between Norwood Arena, Seekonk and Westboro. His 38 Seekonk wins rank 13th with only five inactive drivers ahead of him: George Summers, Wayne Dion, Ray Souliere, Vinny Annarummo and Bugs Stevens. The Taunton, MA native won the 1959 Non-Ford crown at Norwood in a career that spanned the mid 1940s to late 1970s. He raced at Hudson, Lakeville, Lonsdale, Norwood, the Pines and Thompson. He died in 2006 at age 78.
