Pierson Continues Winning Streak in USAC DMA Series

Ellington, CT:  Adam Pierson and his 76M FMR team once again showed that they are the team to beat when they took the win at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT during the USAC Dirt Midget Association race.

The first heat race started off with Jeff Champagne on pole in his 15 followed by the 18C of Mike Chaffee. For the first two laps Champagne in the 15 and Chaffee in his 18C battled for the lead with Chaffee winning out. On lap three Champagne would once again regain the race lead with Chaffee going to second followed by the 1W of veteran racer Ray Miller in third. Lap six brought out the caution flag for the 18C driven by Mike Chaffee hitting the back stretch wall. Due to the damage he would not return to the heat race. Back to green with Champagne in the 15 out front, the 57 piloted by Dylan Duhaime now in second with the 1W of Miller running third. Moving towards the front was the 46 of Kenny Johnson who, by lap nine, would move into the third spot. In the end Jeff Champagne from Westfield, MA would take the win in his 15 FMR midget followed by the 57 of Dylan Duhaime and in third was the 46 of Kenny Johnson.

Heat race two began with the 47 of Scott Holcomb on point followed by the 9 of David Moniz for second. This heat race was action packed from beginning to end with tight racing and several position changes. Under green flag laps the 47 of Holcomb would show his muscle by maintaining the lead with the 9 of Moniz keeping a close gap between him and Holcomb. Derek Graham in the 5 was on the move to the front looking to challenge the top three by lap six. Adam Pierson in the 76M along with teammate Josh Sunn in the 67 battled from lap three to six until Pierson hit the high side of the track and got sideways which dropped him back in the field. On lap seven the 5 of Graham moved into third but the star of the race was Holcomb in his 47 still out front followed by David Moniz in the 9 for second. When the checkered flag was displayed, the 47 of Scott Holcomb from North Granby, CT would take the win followed by the 5 of Dereck Graham for second and rounding out the top three was David Moniz in the 9.

The Midget Dash race had Jeff Champagne in the 15 on pole with David Moniz driving the 9 in second. The race was only five laps and ran quickly with the 9 of Champagne running out front from flag to flag. Once it was over, the 15 of the FMR stable with Jeff Champagne of Westfield, MA took the win and the 9 of David Moniz in second with the 46 driven by Kenny Johnson holding third position.

The twenty five lap feature race began with Jeff Champagne in the 15 starting on pole and the 46 of Kenny Johnson taking the second starting spot. The action for the feature was fast and extremely competitive amongst all drivers. With the green coming out to start the race Champagne took off into the lead but by the end of lap one Johnson in his 46 was the new leader with Champagne in the 15 back to second and following was the 1W of Ray Miller in third. On lap four the caution would come out for a spin which was for the 15 of Champagne. Back to green with the 46 of Johnson holding the first spot but now the 5 of Derek Graham had moved into second place as the 1W of Miller began to drop back and not far behind now moving into third was the 76M of Adam Pierson. The 67 of Josh Sunn was coming on strong and by lap eight was now running in fourth. Caution flag flew again on lap nine as the 9 of David Moniz would spin in turn four. Under green flag on lap ten the 76M of Pierson would get around the 46 of Johnson and the 5 of Graham to take the race lead. The pass by Pierson gave Graham an opening to also pass Johnson and now move into second place with Johnson back to third. Sunn in the 67 would make quick work of Johnson in the 46 and take Johnson on the high side which moved Sunn into third and Johnson back to fourth. While the battle for the top four was going on, Kevin Chaffee in the 4 moved into the fifth spot to join the lead pack. Pierson had a strong half lap lead over the field and continued moving away while starting to lap cars at the rear of the field. The 76M of Pierson, 5 of Graham and Sunn in the 67 would hold the top three spots without challenge but racing from fourth back was tight all the way around the track. In the end it was Adam Pierson in the FMR 76M from Bradford, VT taking the win followed by the 5 Seals-it sponsored team of Derek Graham for second and taking down third was Pierson’s teammate Josh Sunn in the 67 FMR midget.

The series will be back in action on July 18th at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vermont. Joining the series for this race will be racing legend Kenny Schrader driving one of the Seymour Enterprises prepared USAC DMA midgets.
