Bowen Looking for Another Alabama 200 Win at Montgomery

It was just about one year ago when Anderson Bowen scored one of the biggest race wins of his career. Bowen started second, but finished one spot better in the Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco Alabama 200 at Montgomery Motor Speedway.

On Sunday, September 13, Bowen will be out to etch his name into the prestigious Alabama 200’s record books for a second time when he goes for a second-straight win in the event.

“It’s a prestigious race and it was cool to win,” said Bowen.

Bowen calls Suwanee, Georgia home, but he loves winning in Alabama. Winning the most historic short track race there is to win in the whole state made last year’s Alabama 200 victory extra special.

“There’s a lot of bragging rights on the line between the other competitors and even my family,” Bowen said. “But half of my family goes to school in the state of Alabama so I feel like I’m in that state more than I’m in my own state. So that made it really cool too.”

Now that he’s won it once, Bowen wants to do it again. And if he can win back-to-back Alabama 200’s, that would most likely put this year’s race at the top of his racing resume.

“Back to back would be really cool,” he said. “I’ve never won a race back to back in a Super Late Model. Especially with it being the Alabama 200. That’s a big race so that would be really cool.”

Bowen believes that he knows exactly what he needs to do to win the race once again. He explained that it’s a combination of three things.

“I feel like it’s just about having the right strategy and taking care of your equipment,” he said. “But you definitely need to have tires with 50 to go. The goal is to finish the race. Last year a lot of people wrecked out. It’s also about knowing when to take tires and not to take tires. Last year we had a really good strategy that played out over the long run and then that caution that came out with 15 laps to go really helped us out.”

The 51st Annual Alabama 200 will take place at Montgomery Motor Speedway the weekend of September 12-13. The Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco will practice and qualify on Saturday September 12, and the Alabama 200 will go green on Sunday the 13th at approximately 3 p.m. CT.
