The “ThunderDog Showdown” UFo Finale Features the Most Exciting Point Race in Tour History

Mars, PA — Excitement is building for the biggest race ever at Dog Hollow Speedway.   The UFo “ThunderDog Showdown” on September 24-25-26 will feature a $60,000 total payoff for all classes with the UFo Super Lates competing for $7,250 total to win. Adding to the excitement is an ultra-close point race among three drivers for the 2015 UFo Championship.   Event sponsors include Ritchey Sandblasting of Woodbury, PA and G & R Excavating & Demolition of Tyrone, PA.
Devin Friese of Chamberburg, PA currently leads Dylan Yoder of Selinsgrove, PA by a small, 2.5 point margin.   Michael Altobelli, Jr. of Saxton, PA sits just 19.5 points behind Friese in third place. With two full point events at Dog Hollow’s event, all three drivers have an excellent opportuning to claim the title.   Each event can potentially allow a driver to gain 27 points on another driver that qualifies for the feature or uses the attendance provisional, or 32 points on a driver that does not qualify or uses the points provisional.
All three drivers run well at Dog Hollow and have claimed career wins at Dog Hollow. At the UFo “Sam Barley Championship” in August, Yoder finished third, Friese finished fourth and Altobelli finished fifth.     Every position and heat race win will be crucial at this event for these drivers in the quest for the 2015 championship.
Justin Kann of Huntingdon, PA holds fourth place in the point standings with Dan Stone of Thompson, PA turning strong perfomances throughout the season into a current fifth place standing.   Waylon Wagner of Lewiston, PA, Dwayne Tanneyhill of Bellwood, PA, Dan Angelicchio of Mount Pleasant, PA, Andy Fries of Mercersburg, PA and Nick Dickson of Lewiston round out the top ten. Dog Hollow has averaged 33.3 cars at the track’s 2015 UFo events and an even stronger field is expected for this two day mega-event with many other tracks not racing that weekend.
UFo Super Late Models will race for $2,000 to win in the “Flying Floyd Kline Klassic” and $5,250 to win in the “ThunderDog 55.”   Semi-Lates (steel block/limited/crate option) will race for $1,500 to win. Crate Late Models will compete for $1,800 to win in the “Ultimate Crate Challenge.” Cadets (street stocks/pro-stocks) will race for $800 to win. Hobby/Pure Stocks will pay $600 to win and Roadrunner 4-Cylinders will compete for $350 to win.
The weekend will kick off of Thursday, September 24 with a “Track Test.” This night will allow all competitors open practice on the 3/8 mile supertrack to set their cars up for the weekend.
On Friday, September 24, the “Flyin’ Floyd Kline Klassic” will feature the UFo Super Late Models in a full racing program with a 36 lap feature paying $2,000 to the winner. Floyd was the inaugural winner of the “Fall Fest” event held at the Challenger Raceway, so it is fitting that his tribute race be part of this new Indiana County fall event. The Semi-Lates, Cadets, Hobby/Pure Stocks and Roadrunner/4-Cylinders will compete in their qualifying heat races.   As an added bonus, the Cyclone Mini-Cup Late Models will also run a full racing program on Friday night.
On Saturday, September 25, the “ThunderDog 55” will feature the UFo Super Late Models in another full racing program with $5,250 going to the winner of the 55 lap championship finale for the circuit. The Semi-Lates, Crate Late Models, Cadets, Hobby/Pure Stocks and Roadrunner 4-Cylinders will all race in their consolation and super championship feature events.
UFo rules will apply for the Super Late Models.   This event will use an open compound tire rule with a 16 ¾” cross section and 93″ circumference limit for the Super Late Model cars.
Simplified, multi-tier rules have been established for the Semi-Lates, Cadets and Hobby/Pure Stocks for this event. These rules are similar to those used at the Challenger Raceway and will allow virtually all cars in the region to be legal and competitive. Full rules for the event for all divisions may be found at http://www.doghollowspeedway.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/THUNDER-DOG-50-RULES.pdf.
Semi-Lates will allow limited 360 c.i. cars to run at 2,325 weight, econo/RFH type cars to race at 2,330 weight, open steel blocks at 2,425 weight and crate late models at 2,200 weight with an 12″ spoiler. Crate Late Models will compete under CARS, RUSH or FASTRAK rules.
Cadets will have a 2,600 weight for 602 motors, 2,855 weight for 604 motors, 2,850 weight for 360 spec motors, 3,000 weight for 412 standard cars. The 3,100 open category will permit more racing-type equipment to be utilized on the cars.
Hobby/Pure Stocks will run under the Dog Hollow general rules. All cars must meet the standard track specifications.   The standard weight is 3,300 for cars without a triple disc clutch. Cars with a 602 crate motor may weigh 3,000. Cars with a triple disc clutch must weight 3,400. Additionally for this event, Hobby/Pure Stock cars without headers and a triple disc clutch may weigh 3,200.    The track rules will apply for the Roadrunner/4-Cylinders.     .
