PRACTICE: Preece Tops At Stafford

Fastest In NAPA Fall Final 150 Prep Session

STAFFORD, Conn. – Ryan Preece and Doug Coby just can’t separate from each other.

Following last week’s last-lap incident at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and countless head-to-head battles through the last few years, the two seem to be inseparable on the race track. This weekend is shaping up to be no different at Stafford Motor Speedway as Preece and Coby finishes 1-2 on the speed chart in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice for the NAPA Fall Final 150.

Preece led the way with a fast lap of 18.271 seconds (98.517 mph) behind the wheel of his No. 6 TS Haulers/East West Marine Chevrolet. The winner of three of the last four Whelen Modified Tour races at the historic half-mile, Preece trails championship leader Woody Pitkat by eight points entering Sunday’s event.

Coby’s No. 2 Dunleavy’s/HEX Performance Chevrolet rolled to a fast lap of 18.285 (98.441), good for second in the one-hour session. He’s just three additional points behind Preece with two events left on the schedule.

Pitkat, the NAPA Spring Sizzler 200 winner at Stafford this year, ranked sixth on the practice chart at 18.397 (97.842).

Ted Christopher, Donny Lia, and Timmy Solomito followed Coby in the top five. The rest of the top 10 after Pitkat included Bobby Santos, Eric Goodale, Whelen Modified Tour first-timer Ronnie Williams and James Civali.

Practice started approximately three hours behind schedule due to rain earlier in the day. Due to the adjusted schedule, Coors Light Pole Award qualifying is slated to commence at 5 p.m.

The NAPA Fall Final 150 will go green on Sunday at approximately 3:15 p.m., and can be seen on NBCSN on Oct. 10 at 4 p.m.
