Formula Lites Pull out of Race Weekend at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, Open Track Day Added

THOMPSON, CT — The Pirelli Formula Lites Championship Series announced yesterday that changes have been made to their 2016 series schedule, including the elimination of their May 20-21 event at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP). The start of the Formula Lites racing season has been pushed back to better accommodate race team commitments and ensure sufficient competitive presence at every event.

The remaining events scheduled for the TSMP race weekend will go on as planned. The Midstate Site Development Legend Car Series will return for their next two points races of the season on Friday, May 20. Noah Korner started off the season strong with two wins at their opening event on April 29. Just 6 points behind is Jordan O’Brien, followed by Brazilian driver Guilio Borlenghi who currently sits third in the standings.

The Formula Vee’s, one of the oldest open-wheel divisions, will once again take part in the weekend’s events. Their schedule will include practice, qualifying, and a sprint race on Saturday. Last year’s Formula Vee race was won by Craig Swinehart in the #77 car.

As a special addition to the event, TSMP will also be holding an Open Track Day for drivers of all skill levels on both Friday and Saturday. The track day is the perfect opportunity for novice drivers to get affordable seat time, or for racers to use as a Test and Tune to prepare for the first Thompson Summer Road Race Series on Sunday, June 5. The track day will be just $150 per day, and will guarantee drivers a minimum of 90 minutes of track time. Registration for this event is available through MotorsportReg.com.
