Mark Hammer, TJ Kapish and Scott Adams Take Evergreen’s Fall Classic

St. Johns, PA (10/2/2016)- Evergreen Raceway’s “Fall Classic Enduros” kicked off Sunday at the 1/3-mile asphalt oval. After battling hard with Pete Verwys in the early going, Mark Hammer of Hunlock Creek earned his very first Four Cylinder Enduro victory. TJ Kapish of Mountaintop took the lead before a lap was scored in the 6/-8-Cylinder Enduro and never looked back until the checkers flew. In dominating fashion, Scott Adams of Lake Ariel lapped the Open Competition field four times en route to victory.

Chris Elixton started from the pole position in the 100-lap Four Cylinder Enduro. However, Mark Hammer wasted no time and took the lead on the opening lap over Elixton, Pete Verwys, Luke Hoffner and Scott Adams.

With Hammer showing the way, Jeff Ackerman cracked the top five on lap four. Nine laps later, the leaders began to work their way through lapped traffic. Verwys overtook Hammer for the top spot and held it until lap 20 when Hammer moved back to the point. Hammer’s lead was short-lived and Verwys took back over once again.

With 50 laps complete, Verwys continued to show the way over Hammer, Richard Wolfe, Hoffner and Kevin Kruczek, Jr.

Hammer hung with Verwys and the laps clicked off, but with 24 circuits remaining, Verwys’ day came to an end when his ride was shoved into a dead car on the speedway. Hammer was unchallenged in the closing laps and the former Enduro champion took his first victory in the division over Ackerman. Ed Wildes, Hoffner and Rich Emel completed the top five.

Scott Adams started from the pole in the 75-lap 6/8-Cylinder Enduro but TJ Kapish stole the lead before a lap was in the books. Anthony Pizzo held third with Ed Brown, Jr. and Scott Sipe in tow.

Pizzo climbed to second on the second circuit and Brown moved into third. With Kapish showing the way on lap seven, Brown advanced into second.

Brown continued to trail Kapish at the halfway point and Sipe held third over Pizzo and Tony Rispin.

Brown appeared to be reeling in the leader over the second half of the event, but that went by the wayside when he spun in turn two. The change of events moved Pizzo into the second spot and opened up the lead for Kapish.

Kapish was untouched from there and went on to take the victory over Pizzo, Brown, Luke Hoffner and Sipe.

Scott Adams started in the pole position in the 30-lap Open Comp event. He led the first lap over Ricky Weaver and Keith St. Clair.

Just after a lap was complete, the red flag waved for St. Clair, whose throttle stuck on the front stretch. At full speed, St. Clair pummeled the turn one guiderail and destroyed his racecar. Track and ambulance crews quickly went to the scene and St. Clair exited under his own power. He was transported to a local hospital for further observation and testing.

Green flag racing resumed and Adams dominated the remainder of the show by lapping second place Moe Hunsinger four times.
