News and Notes

The Race
Two races remain for Cody Coughlin Champion Racing Association competition in 2016.  One JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Pro Late Model race (Saturday), and the biggest ARCA/CRA Super Series race of the season, the Winchester 400 (Sunday).

The Last Race
Coughlin’s last Super Late Model race saw him fight from the rear of the starting field at Lucas Oil Raceway to score another top five finish.  His last Pro Late Model race saw him drive from 29th to second in 100 laps in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Title Hunt
Coughlin enters Sunday with the points lead in both CRA divisions.  He just about has the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour championship clinched as he leads by 108 points with one race remaining. The ARCA/CRA Super Series standings are a little bit tighter as Coughlin’s lead is 13.  Coughlin is on a quest to become the first driver in history to win both CRA Late Model touring series championships in the same season.

The Pink-Numbered Car
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to help recognize that Coughlin’s car will adorn a special pink scheme during the Winchester 400 weekend.  Coughlin’s sponsor, JEGS, is a strong supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness Month through the JEGS Foundation where their motto is, “Racing for Cancer Research.”

The JEGS Foundation “Racing for Cancer Research” is honored to be affiliated with one of only 39 nationally-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University in Columbus.

To help spread awareness, during the autograph session, Cody and the team will be passing out special breast cancer awareness bags in honor of those who are going through or have gone through this challenge.

The Crew
Cody Coughlin’s Team JEGS crew will be led by first year crew chief Jack Smith.  Smith is joined by Kevin Hamlin (team manager), Scott Wimmer (spotter), Dave Holt (crew member), and Jon Ziti (crew member).

The Family
Cody is a third-generation race car driver.  His family, including his father, John, has been successful in NHRA drag racing for decades.  Cody, unlike his family predecessors, chose the path of circle-track racing rather than follow on the straight-line path set forth by the rest of his family.  Cody’s mother, Di, and sister, Kennedi, attend Cody’s races in support of their favorite driver.

The Race Track
The high-banked asphalt ½ mile oval is located on SR 32 in Winchester, Indiana. Winchester Speedway is owned by Charlie Shaw. The seating capacity is 5,000 and an underground walk through tunnel makes commuting from the pits to the grandstands convenient.
