Jacob Gustafson Earns $400 Four Cylinder Victory at Evergreen Raceway

St. Johns, PA- With $400 at stake for the Evan’s Roadhouse Four Cylinder feature event winner, Evergreen Raceway’s exhibition “Four Banger Sunday” event kicked off on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The fans that flocked to the track witnessed 16-year old Jacob Gustafson of NY come from the back twice to earn the big prize. Pete Verwys of Stroudsburg took the checkers in the “Soccer Mom 20” Minivan Enduro and Jennifer Adams of Lake Ariel easily cruised to the checkers in the Open Comp event.

TJ Kapish started from the pole position in the 4-lap Four Cylinder feature. However, Jacob Gustafson, who started third, grabbed the lead before a lap was complete. Kapish tucked into second, followed by Devin Schmidt, Brayden Spencer, and Carl Altemose.

The yellow flag waved on lap seven and Gustafson gave up the lead when he hit the pits to repair a leak. That handed the top spot to Kapish. Following the restart, Spencer overtook Schmidt for second and set his sights on the leader. The two battled intensely for a number of laps before Schmidt regained the runner-up spot on lap 22.

With all of the side by side racing up front, Altemose quietly worked his way into the mix and eventually got his shot to lead following a tangle involving Scott Adams, Gustafson, and Harry O’Neill. His lead, however, was short-lived, as Gustafson, who had to pit for repair, rejoined the field and shot into the race lead on lap 26.

Gustafson was unchallenged to the checkers and took his first Evergreen win over Kapish, Altemose, Spencer and Kevin Behler.

TJ Kapish and Jacob Gustafson scored heat race victories.

Joe Russell started from the pole position in the “Soccer Mom 20” Minivan Enduro event. Before a single lap was scored, Pete Verwys grabbed the race lead and Mitch Sponenberg moved into second. Verwys was untouched over the distance and went on to take the win over Sponenberg.

Several drivers opted to compete in a 20-lap Open Comp show, including Sponenberg, Russell, and Jennifer Adams. While the pair of minivans traded paint for a fabulous fan reaction, Adams lapped the field to take the victory.
